streetable gears
I want to change the gears in my new Mustang. I drive 50 miles round trip to work so I don't want anything too radical. I was thinking 3:73's. My car has 3:27's now. (At least thats what I was told) I have a 5 speed with Anti-Lock brakes. Is the ABS a problem when changing gears?
Next problem- will the speedo be effected with the geat change? Since the 2000 doesn't have a speedo gear, what can I do the make the speedo read right?? ------------------ 2000 Mustang GT, Eibach Lowering Springs, K&N Air filter, Dual Chamber Flowmasters |

I've heard that about the 2000s....
Well, what I can tell you is that 3.73s are definately the way to go. Have more fun driving while getting into the power band faster! ;-) Top end and highway gas mileage are hardly affected, although you will eat the gas a bit more in the stop and go city traffic. (especially if you drive like me) As far as the speedo goes, I don't know, but I will see what I can find out.... ------------------ 98 GT Dyno-Max cat-back exhaust, 3.73 gears, Steeda shifter, Ford Motorsport Underdrive pullies, 87mm MAF and Roush cold air kit... |

PDOG,
Well 99GT owner here with 3.73's. As for ABS, no effect. As far as speedo, several good options out there. I use an Abbott ERA (Electornic Ratio Adapter). Easy to install and pretty much trouble free, just a few dipswitches and you off and running. You can get from Houston Performance for about $120.00. Hope this helps! |
