Many good high end exhausts. Borla, Bassani, etc.

Personal choice of the sound you are looking for. Not much HP difference between stock and upgrade. 99's flow great without upgrades. One thing . . . Think Stainless Steel.

I have Borlas . . Love 'em

Are you looking to open up the entire system, or something more moderate like a cat-back system?

Borla and Dyno-max make excellent deep sounding catbacks that don't go over into the annoying side when throttle is applied..

If you want to open it up further, you can look into Bassani's X-pipe or MAC's H-pipe...

Thumbs up

Thanks guys. I think he decided to go with the Borla cat-back system. He's buying it in combination with an air intake.

Question

RedGTvert-

Upgrading exhaust doesn't make a difference on a 99 GT? I read somewhere that changing the mufflers alone to flowmasters increased rwhp by 10-15? Are these numbers not correct? How are you comming to the conclusion that upgrading to an X-Pipe and flows will not increase performance?
If you have done it and have numbers, let me know. I was planning on going with this combination and I don't want to waste my money if it's not going to do anything.

thanks

ht2, most of the hp gains from the 98 to 99 has been with freer flowing exhaust. I saw absolutely no or extremely low gains from Borlas, K&N, underpullies and headers. Any claim that exhaust alone in the 99's will increase rwhp by 10-15 might be an a little bit much.

The combo of x-pike and cat backs will add some. But keep in mind that is around 1000K for what 10-15 hp?

On a N/A car gains from exhaust mods are minimal at best, Pre 99's yes.

Question

I beg to differ on the 99 exhaust helping. A bassani X pipe with cats picked my car up at least 20hp even with the stock cat back and manifolds still on. before x pipe 13.99 @ 97.78 after 13.71 @ 100.69. Same track same weather. But then again this was on my car with some other mods having already been done. Maybe the x pipe picked it up more than it would on a totally stock 99 GT.

John, Maybe I was mistaken or short a little on actual hp with the high flow cats, but 10-15hp increase from mufflers alone?

As I mentioned in my earlier posts I didn't see any increase so to speak from headers and cat-backs and nwgsr was looking strictly at cat backs.

PUT THE MONEY TOWARD AN H-PIPE W OR W/O CATS
SUCH AS BASSANI OR SEAN HYLAND,(JUST MAKE SURE IT'S STAINLESS).THEN GO MUFFLERS IF YOU WANT.MUFFLERS ALONE WILL ONLY YIELD MINIMAL HP GAINS,MAYBE 5 HP AND THEY WILL ROB YOUR LOW END TORQUE,GUARANTEED.GET THEM IF YOU WANT THE SOUND.BTW BORLAS ARE THE MOST OVERHYPED,OVERPRICED MUFFLER YOU'LL FIND,BIG WASTE OF MONEY IN MY OPINION.

Mabye that 10 to 15 horsepower gain you heard of was actually that on a 99 cobra, but just mufflers alone on a 99gt ain't gonna do it.
