Question racing and an automatic

I have a 97 gt convertible that is an automatic. What is the best way to race an automatic on a 4.6. Should I try to get in to second quickly or stick in first? ANy advice would be appreciated.

when i drive without spraying nos, i put it in 1 and full throttle til you get to 5000 rpm and switch to 2 and drag that out to about 5000 rpm and stick it into d and let it ride into it. ..... better than just running in d, when i spray nos, i just leave it on d and full throttle while spraying no worries about hitting the rev limiter.

does anybody know the technical nature of overdrive? What does it do for MPG and what about HP? Should it be engaged or disengaged in a race? thanks

Make sure overdrive is turned off.

A shift kit for you trannys valve body would make your shift points nice and firm plus allow for better manual shifting.

So how does a shift kit work. Is it a computer type deal or is it where you tell the tranny to up shift of downshift? Is there anything that you can take a AODE and make it up and downshift when you want it to besides getting a manuel?

A shift kit replaces the valve body on the bottom of the tranny and/or springs in the transmission. Shift kits to me are a must for an auto and will make th tranny shift much harder and firmer. a new torque converter will also greatly improve the performance of your automatic.
