Default Steeda Timing Adjuster

I am a little confused about the Steeda timing adjuster. I thought the spark timing on newer cars was all electronic? Why would you want a mechanical timing adjuster when you could get a chip or a programmer to set the timing perfectly for you?

Thanks,

xto

Most chips don't let you adjust your timing "on the fly" as most are set by custom software that most owners don't have, they are burned in.... while some programmers might be easier than burned chips, most folks find the timing adjusters the most "tinkerer" friendly timing option...

Thanks Hammer,

And by "On the fly" you don't mean while the car is driving, do you?

Thanks,

I haven't heard of any damage associated with a timing adjuster other than folks getting a little to greedy and putting in too much timing... That will get you into trouble...

I THINK the steeda adjuster requires Steeda pulleys, but there are other makers of adjusters that you can use the stock pulleys. (The manufacturer names escape me right now though...)
