Questions from the new guy.........
hey everyone,
i just bought a 97 cobra and i'm loving it, but i'd like just a lil more power. i just registered on the site, but have been reading for a while now, so i decided that i wanted to go with some 3.73 gears and power pullies. a buddy of mine has a 95 gt and put 3.73's in the rear and it ran a lot stronger, but ran like **** after a while. he told me to get: - 31 spline axles - auburn differential - ford racing 3.73 ring and pinion set - rear end rebuild kit to prevent what happened to his, happening to my car. is all this really necessary? i haven't read a lot about people on this site doing all this. what do you think i need? and where is the best place to get the pullies and around how much will they run me and will i need a new belt? any help would be appreciated. oh yeah, i already have a k&n air filter and an aftermarket maf. i'm not looking to go all out. i just wanna be in the mid to low 13 sec range. right around 13.3 would be perfect. thanks in advance.

i'm a big fan of suspension, so what are some good upgrades to do? i was thinking some lower control arms and maybe some subframe connectors.

For suspension, check out steeda junk, they have a really good line of really good products. Also, go to http://reviews.stangnet.com and check out the suspension section...they give good personal reviews on everything there.

i wouldn't worry about axles and stuff unless you plan on making some pretty heavy mods to the car and racing on slicks i have never broke an axle factory or otherwise and have made low 10 second passes with factory axles somehow i broke the pin that holds the spider gears in place but not the axles.

so just the differential and the gear then? sounds good. i saw how much all of you were paying for the rear end and it just wasn't adding up with installation and the axles. good good, one less thing i have to worry about.
thanks, zac

Just get gears and rebuild the stock Trac-Lok unit. The rear-end gears have no effect on how the car runs. 3.73's arent' gonna make the car run crappy.
Get some 4.10's for that high-reving Cobra motor (I'd get 4.30's, but I'm a gear head who loves going fast). It has a different power band than GT's, it likes the steeper gears. Titan : just a side note, but you can't get a auto in a Cobra. Just a 5-speed(6-speed for 03).
