Great buy, welcome to the "Snake Lair". Take a look at my mods and it ought to give ya a good start. BTW, what color and where are you from?

Cool

Actually I would go with 4.30's. Ive driven a Cobra with both and the 4.30's a good choice. That unless you plan on staying NA and going with 4.56's.
By the way Im in the market for a 96-98 cobra as well. Just havent found a good deal, but for some reason Im still modding my 96 GT.

I agree with you on the 4.30's, I'll probably get those next time. There is a 96 Cobra and a 98 Cobra in the paper here for sale. The 96 is $15,500 and the 98 is $18,500. I'll check on them if you want.

cvenom: I appreciate (sp) the offer, but that is a bit too far away. I just missed out on the deal of a lifetime. A local small dealer sold a 96 mystic cobra that was bone stock w/40000 miles for $12K. I saw the add in the paper and he said he sold it the day before. Ive seen the car and talked to the new owner. He didnt even realize the deal he got and I havent told him. Ive offered him 14K and he is "thinking about it."
stang1996GT: You have the exact cobra Im looking for. Black on black coupe. Enjoy your new toy. As far as gas mileage, I think your loss would be minimal. Mileage really depends on how much you get on your car. With any gear ratio if you stay out of the gas you will get good mileage, but with the "snake" its hard not to strike. Have fun, Im sure you will like whichever ratio you go with.

On the street they don't fair too well but not THAT bad either. Mine didn't drop that bad on the highway but it is definetly noticable. As far a the tune up you might want to go ahead and change plugs and get a K&N. If you have the extra money get some wires. I haven't heard good things about the motorsport wires though. I think MSD makes a good set.

Your next mod should be exhaust. I'm guessing up there you have emissions laws so a good h or x pipe with converters and mufflers would be next. Bassani makes a good x-pipe or BBK or Mac for the h-pipe. Personally I like Flowmasters but alot of people run Borla

Thumbs up

Great buy, I love my Cobra. The next mod if I was you would deffenitley be the gears at least 4.30's I wish my car had them. The 3.73 just don't get the car in the power band quick enough. The timing adjuster helped me out alot, but I haven't been to the track to see how much. So start with the gears then after that it's all about how much $ you have to spend.

Later, Will
