Question best supercharger?

I don't know if this the right forum or not, but I'm lookin to know what the general consensus is on the best supercharger out there for a stock 1999 GT? I'm thinkin of gettin the intercooled Procharger P-1SC but I haven't seen to many teams that support it. Any ideas?

I think you have to define what "best" means to you.

Blowers like Kenne Bell give awesome torque and power from low RPM's, but a blower like the Vortech may provide better traction when launching.

What type are you interested in?

Honestly, I can't say I know exactly what type to look for. I've been basing my research solely on how much of a horespower gain I could get from the addition of the supercharger and reliability.

Best to me would mean a system that would be durable enough for me to put between 100 and 200 miles on the car everyday and still be able to take to the strip on weekends and (hopefully) take it under 12sec. in the quarter consistently. There's a lot more I imagine that I need other than the charger that would allow me to do that, but I figure the addition of a charger would be the best place to start and then work from there.

I have zero experience with actually working with the car but it's something I've been interested in since I was a kid. Any tips on where to start would be greatly appreciated.

I think you will probably get a better response to your question over in our Modular Madness forum. Good luck and welcome to Mustang Works.

Cool

Well best supercharger options for the 99 motor can be debated but our current more tried and true options are SALEEN (Roots), Vortech, and Paxton.

Based on your requirements either or could make you smile a lot.

So you wouldn't recommend the Procharger? The Air-to-Air intercooler seems pretty impressive. What are the drawbacks of it or does it have more to do with the quality and design of the supercharger?

I read alot about the air to air set up and liked it alot. I think the self contained Procharger unit is a great idea. It uses it's own oiling system, which means that you don't get any of the dirty engine oil in the charger. That seems to be a big advantage to me. Also I beleave that Procharger is the only company out to offer a air to air intercooler in there base kit and you can upgrade from a 2 to 3 core cooler. Also with the intercooler you can run higher boost levels do to the cooler inlet charge. Plus the cooler the inlet temp the less likley you are to have detonation . When I can afford it the P-1SC 3core will be on my car.

To find out more info go to www.procharger.com

Good luck, Will

Hammer has the Procharger with the intercooler. His car is freaking fast. The only down side that I have seen with it so far is that you have all kinds of tubing in the front of the car, plus the intercooler. Installation would be alot more complex and there are more things to potencially go wrong.

From personal experience however, the performance is kick a$$, as I'm sure a few shocked LS1 owners will also atest to

Thumbs up

Hind-sight being 20/20, and you want to put this on a daily driver, I'd go with a Vortech or with the SVO roots unit...

While I love my Procharger and its power, I've had some difficulties with it from time to time... (Like oil seals breaking and flooding my MAF with oil...)

If you're looking for something to put in a daily driver that is pretty minimum-maintenance, I'd go Vortech or roots type...

Are there any other reliable air-to-air intercoolers out there? I'm interested in adding some kind of cooling system for the supercharger but having to move my battery to the trunk in order to make room for an air to water aftercooler isn't very appealing to me. Anyone have any experience with that? I've also heard that there are now turbochargers available for the 2001 GT and Cobra. Anyone have any ideas on that?

I have more than just ideas, I have a Tuned TDC Stage II turbo kit @ 7 1/5 psi(less than 6 psi used to make numbers in Sig.) on my car. It pulls stronger than my V2 S-trim @ 12 psi. If I had it to do all over again, I would have waited for the turbo system. After having both, I can honestly say that they drive totally different. The part throttle response, possibly due to little to no parasitic drain with the turbo, is much better now. The turbo kit comes complete with everything you need to run 6 psi and make probably over 400 rwhp with a 5speed and over 400 rwtq with either transmission. Also the turbo whistle sounds awesome. Next week I should be getting tuned for 10 psi and will hit the track. Shoot me an e-mail for pictures and info on the kit. I can put you in touch with my friend that owns a shop and put the car together.

Marc,
Yeah that Turbo set-up is trick and powerful but let's talk turkey. $$$$$ How much for the kit + install and down time??

I think a turbo is a little advanced for even those that have been around the modular superchargers for awhile.

The P-1SC is a very sweet and reliable unit so if you are really gung ho for the unit and have a line on a good price and install. Go for it!!!

Hammer Love that signature. But, you should include some USAF F-15/16s too.

Becasuse we all are going to get some.
