Post 02' Intake Silencer?

Hah! after giving all you modular guys a hard time about the baby cammer engine I went out and bought one

I've got an 02' GT and I've been playing around with it. First thing I did was pull the intake silencer which doesn't seem to be all that restrictive (at least compared to the old 5.0 silencers), and it looks like it seals the filter house from hot engine air at the very least?

Has anybody verified that removing the silencer improved the power or does it pretty much amount to making more noise and nothing else?

I'm guessimg that this thingy hasn't changed design int a while? A rearward facing trumpet with a body that increases size where it meets the window on the filter housing?
