Talking Whats the Difference?

What is the main difference between the 96-98 sohc engine and the newer 4.6l sohc engine found in the 99 and up GT's besides more horsepower. The reason I'm asking is because I have a 96 GT and I'm thinking about swapping my engine for the newer more powerful motor (if possible). I was wondering what the experts had to say about this.

The Heads/intake/cam combo on your car stinks compared to the newer mod motors. Swapping in the heads/intake/cam from a newer GT will get you up to (and likely past) the new HP figures (260). Also, when your engine is disassembled, you can take that time to port and polish the heads/intake, and put in beefier parts like pistons, rings, etc, etc. A lot of guys with the 96-98 GT's are doing the swap, and loving it. Good luck!

For a complete ported headswap package check out the front page on MustangWorks for the press release on DTA Racing & Performance's new Ported Headswap Package.

Complete package for the '96-98 owners who wish to upgrade to the PI heads. Everything is included in the package. All new, OEM Ford components, heads are fully ported, and best of all................$1500.

Let me know if I can help.
