Default Off road H-pipe???

I have a 96 GT and was wondering what is the purpose of the H-pipe with no cats. I understand that it lowers back pressure a bit but everone says that it will also take away a some of my torque down low. I don't want that to happen so I was wondering why so many people like them if this is true. ?????

Post h pipe

dont worry about loosing bottom end unless you planning on not using mufflers, as long as your car doesnt backfire you have enough back pressure, alot of people like them because in most cases they cost half as much as a pipe with cats, get the pipe and a good cat back and u will have awesome sound, if u have stock heads on you car its not gonna add much power because they dont flow very well but it will give u a deep throaty sound
