Default Gas mileage ?????

I got a 96 GT and for some reason I am getting an average of 9 to 14 m.p.g. city. Does anyone know what I could do besides adjusting my driving?

Have you lost gas milage, or are you just asking how you can get better? Do you have a K&N air filter (btw, it won't increase gas milage)?

Occasionally what can happen is the MAF can get oil on it if you put too much oil on the K&N when re-oiling it. If you take off the sensor and spray it with some electrical cleaner that might solve your problem. Just be very careful when doing, because the wires are very thin.

How are you driving it?

I can get really good gas mileage if I drive like an old lady. But I don't, I always step on it, so my mileage sucks. Could be your problem.

Make sure your air filter is clean and has a LIGHT oil film. Normally when oil covers the MAF wire, the computer will pick it up as a problem if the wire gets a little too much oil.

If you haven't tuned your car in a long time, it might be time to try that too. You didn't say how many miles you've got on your car.

Also make sure the wires are bone cold, preferably let it set overnight, and don't turn the key until they are dry.

If you haven't touched it in 70K, you should have it tuned up.

Your fuel pressure regulator could be stuck closed. Your computer should adjust the injector pulse width to fix it though, but it might be worth checking out since all you have to do is pull the vacuum line off of it and watch the fuel pressure. It should go up. If it doesn't it is either stuck closed or your return line is clogged.
I would still get a tune up though, it could help. Engines with that amount of mileage on them could easily be worn enough to have poor effeciency.
