Default Good shorty headers for the 4.6, are they worth it?

I'm sure they are better then stock of course but not as good as long tubes. I'm getting these headers http://www.gefracing.com/Merchant2/m...Code=46EXHAUST

Are they good, they are from ford motorsport so I'm looking for some ponies to complete a true free-flow exhaust, thanks for any input. I dont want long tubes cause I need to buy a new mid-pipe so these should flow better then stock.

Not really. The gain is supposedly 3-5 hp; you're probably looking at about 3 since you haven't done the head swap.

Just 3 huh, that blows. I thought it might be a little more with the flows and H-pipe I installed. Well as long as it makes it a little louder then or should I just not buy headers? It takes me along time to buy a mod so I will not see head swap untill I'm older and have more money and tuned headers just seem so much more better then the headers that are stock where they just all flow in one pipe ya know(thanks horsepower Tv) More input!!! Thanks

I do have JBA shorties on mine just because the longtubes were getting smashed since my car is lowered a lot and I didn't want to put the heavy cast manifolds back on. Since I went from longtubes to shorties instead of stock to shorties I can't really say whether they are any louder than stock, but I would think that the sound difference would be pretty hard to notice. The sound comes from the crossover, cats/no cats, and the mufflers mostly.

If you mwant the headers go ahead and get them cause they may only give 3-5 at peak but who drives at peak all the time plus they would be a the last piece that you would need for your exhaust so that part of the car would be done

but thats just imo

That's not 3-5 hp gain at peak hp, that's a peak gain of 3-5 hp; that's the highest gain seen anywhere in the rev range. I would agree that every couple of hp adds up, but for the money and the amount of time it takes to put headers on a newer stang there are a ton of more effective mods you can do.

I'm lookin for mods, I feel I've hit quite a few good ones minus heads and supercharging. Pullies yes but I had then and we couldnt put them on cause the crank pulley was rust-welded as we call it and I got a sweet deal on the headers, they retail for like 280 and I picked them up for 190 so I felt I didnt have a choice so I'm gonna ask around to see if I can find a hook-up on install for these headers. Everyone knows a bigger TB will cause me to lose horse on a 96 but I feel with the new upper plenum I can move to a 70mm TB, I can get it for 120 so thats not bad but after that I dunno.....I might have to stop I need to save
