Question speaker quality

Well let me get things started in this forum. I am wondering what the speaker quality is in a 96 GT. It's not the Mach 460 system. It has 5-1/4" up front and I believe 5X7's in back. I may be buying a 96 GT this week and I already have a Kenwood indash CD to go in it. Are those factory speakers decent for a little while anyway? Do they make any bass? Thanks!

I dont know too much of the non-mach 460 system, but Id say theyd be ok for a while...the Mach 460 is definitely the best stock stereo Ive ever heard-- (I used to sell cars so I heard ALOT of car stereos.)
It sounds like you'll be upgrading the whole stereo system anyway, so its probably not too important how the speakers are now.

I own a 98' with the stock system. Hated it!! Replaced the speakers with Kenwoods and what a difference.
Good Luck.

I think the stock speakers suck. Everyone says to get the Polk 3-way 5x7 to replace the stock speakers. "SmileVideo" (the ads in the back of all the magazines) have them the cheapest, like $94 a pair. Everyone else has them at $150/pair. I'm planning to match these up to a Rockford Fosgate head unit with an Alpine amp and a JBL bazooka.

Unless they made a big change in 96 the speakers will be fine. They're not the best you can buy but I have a Kenwood highpower CD player in my 95 and have no problems. They want take full vol but sound great.
BTW I was going to upgrade them later and that was two years ago.

The only way to tell how the speakers sound, is to listen to them. Everybody's ears are different, and you may not like the sound of a speaker that your best friend loves.

As far as build quality and power handling are concerned... a stock speaker is NEVER going to be as good as a high-quality aftermarket speaker.

BTW, I do not count Kenwood on my list of high-quality speakers. They are better than most, but not "high". Neither are the Polks for that matter... or most other brands sold by large retailers such as Crutchfield, Circuit City, etc.

Hehehe, enough ranting from me... Go by what YOUR ears tell you, not anyone elses'.

Well I got the Kenwood deck in a while ago and soon discovered that the factory speakers SUCK. So I ordered some BOSS 5x7's for the front and 6x9's for the back. They should be here in another week or two and I can't wait to ditch those factory ones
