Which springs?
I am looking for a set of lowering springs for my '97 Cobra. I just bought the car a few weeks ago and don't know much about upgrades yet. I do know that I want to get rid of those large wheel well gaps and lower the car a good 1.5" or 1.75", whatever the max is that looks nice. My car will eventually be up to around 400hp but I do not plan to race it at the track - it will be a basic nice weather street driver that needs to still feel good handling your basic road conditions. If anyone can steer me in the right direction I would appreciate it! Thx.

If you can help it do not lower it more than 1.5 inches but prefer no lower than 1.25 inches. Even a 1 inch drop is very noticable and looks good. Any lower than that it screws up the geometry of the suspension and will cause everything fail. Chassis cracking, etc. You could go with progressive rate springs such as Steeda Sport springs (aka: Eibachs), Eibach springs, Ford "C" springs and Global West. When you do make sure you upgrade your shocks and struts because your stock ones are not designed to handle the car being lowered. Go with Tokico or Koni or Billstein. Also you'll need Caster/Camber plates so you can adjust the front end alignment. The stock ones will not work correctly after the car has been lowered.
DO NOT chop the stock springs. They are not made for it and it will ruin the suspension as well as a very rough ride. I would also recommend subframe connectors as well. ------------------ 1994 Red SVT Lightning #2019 [This message has been edited by 96GTS (edited 06-24-2001).] |
