Question squeaky noise in front end of '96 GT?????

I have a squeaky noise in the front end of my '96 GT. I can hear it when I turn the wheel and if i hit a small bump. I've been told it's probably the ball joint and can try spraying it with a lubricant or even going as far as tapping it and screwing in a grease fitting (not too fond of that one). Anyone else have similar problems or any suggestions.
My '96 is a stock conv. with 47,000 Miles - the only add on right now is a K&N air filter but I'm getting alot of ideas on the site.

Thumbs up

I had some squeeking issues that went away after I swapped out my stock shocks and struts for my Tokicos. Have you sprayed WD40 yet like someone suggested? I would definately check all the simple things before tapping in a fitting.
Keep us posted.

THANKS for the info on this. I ended up taking a day, pulling off the wheels and getting to the problem. Everytime I hit a small bump or turned the wheel I got a loud squeak. It turned out to be the ball joint at the outer tie rod-I lifted the boot sprayed inside with a liquid grease/lubricant and it's fine now.

Exactly what I was going to say...outer tie rod end. Had the same thing on my 96GT. The part was $20. I installed it in about 10 minutes. No more squeek.

Yep, same with my 95 GT. Every 10 or 11 months I put some gear oil in the joint. I'll get to replacing it eventually.
