Steeda pully install = oil leak?!!
I have recently had Steeda pullies installed in my 97 GT. I have since noticed an oil leak that seems to be centered around from the crankshaft pully. Anyone have this experience, or know the cause, and how to correct it. The oil isn't exactly gushing, but there is a definite loss as there are drips on the ground, and oil on the crank pully and especially on the water pump pully below it...
My mechanic is normally really good, and specializes in performance mods, but I thought that this was a no-brainer install with the correct tools.... I took all the precautions with prepping him, and even supplied Joe Lynch's great instructions to compliment the also provided Steeda ones. |
I there any way I can view the "Joe Lynch" instructions, how did you get them?

http://www.lx.net/jlynch/pulleys.html I know the instructions are for a Cobra, but most of the basic info should be the same. |
Thanks a lot for the link. My mechanic (hes a genious) installed my pulleys and they are working fine. I was just curious to view the instructions. I hope you find the cure for your problem.

I installed my pullies the other day, and in the instructions it says to put rtv in the slot that is on the crank pulley. To prevent any oil leaks.

My mechanic fixed the seal today. He used RTV again to really seal the keyway etc., and replaced the old crankshaft seal. It didn't look particularly bad, but there was a little nicking in a couple of places...Oh well, he bought the part, and did the job for free, (he is very honest, and up front.) I can't complain. He definitely has my loyalty, and has had it for years.
