Strut Brace 98 GT vs 96 Cobra
I currently seen a strut brace bar (used) on ebay for a stock 1996 Cobra. Will this fit/work with a 98 GT after pre-drilling holes in the firewall? Or is there a clearance I do not know about? The motor in my 98 is unmodified (stock) 4.6L. My intentions were to buy it and paint it purple.

If you look at listings for strut tower bar applications, the manufacturers that I checked have different part numbers for the two cars, so I would say that it won't work. My reasoning is that if it worked on both cars they wouldn't waste the time developing and selling two different bars if they didn't have to.

I just ordered one for my car, so I spent a lot of time researching parts etc... I generally saw four listed for any given year/s. Two for the Cobra and two for the GT. (Course, they have them for V-6 as well). The reason for two for each car, is different material choices. I went with a chrome alloy type from Steeda, for example. It's lighter abd stronger. Most of the Cobra ones that I saw were two point, and not like the 3 point that you show in the photo. If I had to guess, I would say that this one might fit your car, but may stick up somewhat to make more room for the super charger on a Cobra (If Cobra's of that year had one...I am not familiar with Cobras much). If not sure, you can buy a brand new one for less than a $100. A lot of places discount them. Check out "mustangtuning.com". They have a few listed and if you email them, they will give you a price for any vehicle. Shipping is free. This is where I got mine. Good Luck! |
the difference in the GT vs Cobra bar is the cobra has more clearence for the different size engine. IE the won't interchange well
