Default Very Stupid Question - Intake?

OK I have a very stupid question, so bare with me. I've seen lots of posts concerning "the intake", plastic intakes, Bullit intakes (which seem to be better for some reason, because they are metal vs plastic??). Can someone explain to me exactly what the intake is and does, where is it in the motor, and what the difference is between the different ones available. Also, I have an '00 GT, which has had a Vortech Supercharger upgrade done to it. Is it worthwhile for me to upgrade my intake for performance (and what kind of increase?) or durability reasons? Thanks for your patience with these questions!

The actual intake of your motor is the part that sits right on top of your engine and feeds air into it. Our intakes are plastic composite, and arent' the greatest, but arent exactly terrible either. The intakes on the 96-97 GT's sucked, and were prone to exploding, but that's covered under an open recall

Since you're supercharged, you'd see a nice gain if you upgraded to a Bullit intake...say 15-20hp or more. The whole set up is gonna run you upwards of a grand though, so you dont get great bang for your buck. Youd be better off getting an intercooler and running some more boost. Good luck to you.

Default Not another stereo post....

Oh Geez Karen.....somebody a while ago asked about how he should spend $800 and when he heard how much certain performance upgrades would cost he suggested he might just take this money and upgrade he stereo....oh did he take a beating over that comment, it was actually pretty funny how everyone jumped on him for that comment, it ended up all being done in lots of fun, once everyone appologized for being so tough on him! I can't afford to spend money on my stereo because I'm always spending it on new tires!! I'll see if I can save a few pennies so we can chat in the Audio section, it might take me a few years though!

LOL I figured I might have got an ear full when I posted that...heehee I know how it is !! It is hard to have both a kick arse stereo and a fast rice eating stang.... Personally I would choose the fast stang too!!! Well I be in the audio forum waiting for ya!!!!!! See ya then and I will hold you to that!!

See Ya,
Karen

Default Jax Midnight Drags?

Hey Coolie - Were you at Jaxraceways Midnight Drags two weeks ago? There was a car that looked just like yours there and I thought it might have been you. I've been going to Gainesville for their Friday night Street Racing every first Friday of the month, lots of runs, and they even have a bracket race for a trophy, which always makes it interesting, plus everyone is pretty much a novice racer (I went last night and it was great, plus the weather was a little cooler). Anyways, it's be a blast if you ever want to go racing down at Gainesville, or even Jax. Just let me know. I'm pretty sure Midnight Drags are on tonight at Jaxraceway and I was thinking of going, I just don't know if I want to wreck my Sunday again.

Smile Rude

Oh you're rude alright Silver. I actually knew what the intake was I didn't know what the heck it was called though. I always thought of it as the Pony box, which sucked in all the air (you know the '99+'s have the little Pony on them. Anyways, thanks for you support pal.

That guy was me and there actually isn't a trunk release button in my glove compartment. Seems like my car is the only one without it, maybe I got jipped.

It breathes better than the stock 96-98 intakes. More air/fuel = more hp.
