Question suggestion on new cobra

Ok, here in about 6 months, i am going to turn 18 and am going to buy a cobra. i have heard many things about the 5.0 and the switch to the 4.6 modual motor. i have heard good about both, and also bad about both. i just cant make up my mind about witch is better to get. im looking for something that is a good car to drive daily but also can throw a few grand into and have a nice 12 or high 11 secound street car. any ideas would be great.

thanks.

If you're thinking used Cobra for reasonable cash:

98 Cobra, good reliable horsepower that is mod-friendly...

(305 at the crank stock)

I would go with what Hammer said and look into a 96-98 Cobra.
The mods to get them in the 450-500Hp range, reliably, are very easy and well known know.
Intercooled SC, full exhaust, MAF, and some good fuel system mods with a conservative tune should give you all the power you'll need to run low 12's - high 11's.
Along with the above mods you would need to work the Cobra heads and intake or just get aftermarket stuff to make that kind of reliable power with the 5.0 Cobra. But don't get me wrong, it would still be pretty easy to throw an IC'ed SC on the 5.0 Cobra and go plenty fast.

It depends on your funds. It also depends on body styles. If you have the cash for a 99-up Cobra, then go for it. If not, then buy a 96-98 4.6 DOHC and do all of the above mentioned. It is easy to see 450HP with those cars. If money is really tight for now, then get a 94/95 Cobra. Although slower then the 96-up, they still come with all the Cobra goodies and can be done up for 11s no problems. Now if money is not an issue then bring $34,000 in two big bags with $ signs on the side of them to your local SVT dealer and say "I want an 03 Cobra please"

Then proceed to your nearest mustang shop and order a Lightning pulley, K&N, and full exhaust and be done for the day with over 500HP.
