Suspension upgrade.
I like the way my cobra handles and it it launches great with no wheel hop. But there is a pretty good gap between the tires and the body. I want o drop it about 2 inches without hurting the launch.
What springs would be best. Thanks. |
Any lowering springs that are stiffer than stock are going to hurt your launch due to reduced weight transfer. I always recommend H&R to people because they offer several different stiffnesses and ride heights, and their quality is highly regarded. Eibachs are good as well. You will also need Caster/Camber plates if you are going to lower it 2".

2" seems a little much to me. Depending on what you're looking for, I would recommend 1 1/4" or so. I'm pretty sure the steeda and bbk "gripp" progressive rate springs lower the car around 1 1/4". I hear you don't need caster/camber plates for these springs, but I got them anyways just to be safe.

With stock body and exhaust a 2" drop is not too bad at all. Mine is lowered 2-1/2" with longtubes and the Saleen body and I still rarely scrape even though the roads and driveways around here are evil. The wheel gap is so big in the newer cars that the only way to get it looking right is to drop about 2" or get bigger wheels and lower it less. Even as low as mine is I still have a 2" wheel gap with 255/40-17s.

You're probably right, I don't know much about the ride height of the 99+ stangs. All I know is that I haven't even lowered my car yet (doing it tonight) and I sometimes scrape my offroad h-pipe on speed bumps and some driveways.
