Default Switching from V8 to V6

I've got a 1998 Mustang GT Convertible. I love it except, with gas prices going through the roof, I'm wondering about the wisdom of switching out the engine to a V6. Anybody got any notions as to whether this will give me any substantial savings on gas mileage, etc.. I currently get 16-18mpg in the city--which is where I do most of my driving. I don't really need all the power and with what I owe, I think I'd be cutting off my nose to spite my face if I try and trade for a V6.

My point of view is that it wouldn't be worth all the trouble. The gas savings would be negligible.

I dont think your gonna save all that much in the long run...i got a 03 v6 and the sticker when i bought it said 19-21 mpg city 24-26 mpg highway so its really not that much differance. This is a dumb thing to say to anyone with a mustang but try being smooth on the throttle that may save you some! LOL

There are plenty of people out there with V6 Mustangs that would LOVE to trade for your V8! But I have to agree, we have an 02 V6, a 97 GT Vert, and an 03 GT. The V6 is not all that much easier on gas, and my wife drives it, she doesn't get on it like my son and I do. I don't actually check gas mileage (my dad was obsessed by it, checked every tank) but I do reset the odometer each time I fill them up and see the mileage travelled on each tank of gas, its pretty close to the same.

I agree w/ Orange 97 - the 8 cyl is aprox same - actually research shows that epa estimates are based on a "calculation" - and not actually road tested (epa is generally 2 mpg over on estimates and on hybrids, as much as 10!) - mine is still in "break in" and she is getting 16 to 18 mpg now - besides - since you already own - v8 bragging rites and power!

try having a full size truck w/ a v8 in nothing but in town driving. shut up and buy an escort, j/k. but your question was totally unusual. and i think asking that here where mostly everyone is insanely obsessed with more and more power is kinda like going to a morgue and asking for suggestions on baby names. good luck

Yeah ur not gonna save that much just dont tromp on the gas so much and ur complaining about 16 to 18 miles per gallon. i wish i got that good of gas mileage but i think the problem has some thing to do with my right foot. but i dunno il have to do some research.
