I recently bought a 1998 GT. Its automatic. Somtimes when I come to a sudden stop, and takeoff before the car comes to a complete stop I feel a shudder. Any idea what it is?

First check your transmission fluid to make sure it isn't burned (will smell like burnt toast) or low. If its not, does the car jerk, or just oscilate?

It does not do it all the time. It has 29,000 miles. I know according to Ford its about due for a fluid change. However the fluid leval is good and its not burnt. I too have read that all 98s were 4r70w. I just feel a vibration for less than a second if I accerlate quickly from a sudden stop. I don't mean skidding suddden stop either or a spinning tires accerlation.

i don;t think this is good, we have a 4r70w in our lincoln i think and weve never changed the fluid with over 110k on the clock and its never done that.
