Tach problem
I have a 98 mustang GT and haveing a little problem with my tach. It is sticking (jumping) in the area from 2000 and 3000 rpm (in that general area). If i get below that or above that area it works fine. Any idea's or help would be appreciated.. Thanks

Have you messed with the face gauges any? I've heard that if you mess w/ these, you can screw up your gauges. If you did, there are some how-tos at www.mustangworld.com that show how to do face changes.

I haven't messed with them but i bought the car used. It has white face gauges in it does the 98 come standard with right face gauges?

No, they do not. I had a similar prob when I went to install my White Gauges... It is caused by the spindle rubbing against the gauge face. The person b4 you prob put it on and didn't make sure the fit. Pull your gauges and check two things:
1). The spindle clearend left and right, this is the metal part that the needle sits on. Make sure it isn't touching the face. 2). The needle itself. Make sure it isn't pressed on too far, or it will rotate on the surface of the gauge face. This will cause it to stick in certain places. Also, make sure that the face isn't in a bind, and that is doesn't lift off the surface of the gauge pod. This can also cause it to stick./ |
Nah...white should be stock...but like the rearend, ford jipped us again (3.73 should be stock...holy crap--it's not like it's a performance car or anything). Check out
http://www.mustangworld.com/ourpics/fcar/whtf1.htm It gives a good break down on how to disassemble the face. Don't mess w/ it if you don't know what you're doing. Read this FIRST, otherwise you could mess up more than just your tach. It's pretty indepth and easy to follow. |
