Default Tell me about the 3-valve Stang

Alright, it is not a done deal yet, but I am leaning towards ordering a new 2006 Mustang GT. While I am familar with the 5.0, I know little about the modular motors. Tell me what I should know specific to the new 3V motor.....common problems, what hinders performance the most, what are the first mods to make (and will my warranty be void as soon as I touch anything?), etc?

Along the same lines, throw out anything you want on the 05/06 Stangs. Are the rattles in the body actually gone with this new platform? Common problems? Things to look for? Throw it all out there for me to digest

The 05/06 is a beautiful car, both aesthetically and mechanically. I've got several customers making more than 300hp at the wheels with nothing more than an exhaust, headers and cold air intake. The cars are more complex though. The electronic throttle control can be tricky and affects the performance dramatically. Tuning is key.

The two-piece driveshaft needs to be tossed asap. A single piece knocks 31 pounds off the driveline. If/when you go boosted, there's very few options for the MAF (it doesn't take much to peg it out). Its pretty easy to get these to 450 rwhp with a simple 10psi supercharger kit, even the autos. The 5R55 auto transmission is killer compared to the older AOD/AODE trans. All in all, the cars are great in my opinion.

Jeff, thanks for all the info man! That is about the most positive response I've gotten on the new Stangs. Most people love the way they look, but still don't know their performance potential, so they suggest buying the Mach 1 or Cobra. While I'd love to have a Cobra, I can't justify spending the 25K or so on a clean, low mileage '03 when I can get a new 2006 GT for about the same amount of money. I'm sure the performance market will catch up with the 05/06 and I'll have plenty of options down the road. 300 hp at the wheels with just a CAI and exhaust work sounds great !
