Lightbulb Tell me if this a good paint job quoate

I have an 87 lx noch, I am getting paint quotes. My brothers friend gave me a quote of $3,080. This includes a full sand, rust removal(i only have surface rust), filling dents, removing dores and fixing what rust may be at the bottom of them, replaceing all exterior molding, and seals. I am painting it white again, he said he uses DuPont(not sure what exact type yet) clearcoat and buff afterwards. The guy has a good rep, and does good work. Just wondering what a full restoration like this runs elsewhere. I am going to some other shops for quotes tomorrow, and I wanted to see what u guys may have paid.

Cool

The best thing to do is shop around (like you said you're doing). I am shopping right now for my 66 that needs a lot of body work and my cheapest quote was around $3,500. My highest quote pushed the $7,000 mark. $3050 sounds a little excessive for a late model but I haven't seen the car. Some parts of the country are more expensive than others due to market sizes and shop repuation can factor in as well. Shop around to every place available and you'll start to notice patterns in what different aspects of the job will cost. That is the best way to weed out shops trying to overcharge you for something you might not need. This probably doesn't help a whole lot, but the point is... shop, shop, shop, and you'll find a good price and someone you can trust. The more educated you are the less someone can take advantage of you.

just my 2 cents.

Thumbs up

The way you have it broken down sounds pretty reasonable. Initially it sounded like some basic sanding and a respray (which seemed steep at the $3,000 price tag). I think if the shop has a good rep and is willing to stand by their work then go for it. I'd still compare a bunch of other quotes just so you have a feel for what the basic costs are in your area. Good luck and be sure to post pictures so we can all drool.
