Unit 5302's Retro Test Drive 1995 GT
Well, I'm out car shopping as some people may know.
Today's cantidate: 1995 Mustang GT Coupe Blue/Teal exterior, gray cloth interior. 105,000mi. Dealer lot. The dealer was asking $7950 in the autotrader, and he said it needed nothing mechanically, and it was clean. I arrive at the lot, don't see it for a sec, but there it pops out at me. Here's the scoop. It's been through at least one major accident, A/C hose is leaking, some touch up on the paint (minimal), some rust underneath, junky tailpipes, bad mufflers. The rear main was seeping, the tires were wrong size/type. Goodyear Eagle Touring 225/60R16. The pony emblem was broken. The start up revealed a shot thowout bearing, and a weakening clutch. Vacuum leak to the heater controls related to the braking system as the vent wouldn't come on unless I hit the brakes. Drivers side seat was torn badly on the side. Lots of noise from the trunk compartment, including what could have been a rear end bearing. The heater core was bad. All in all, a nifty little POS. Granted, the paint was in solid shape, and rust was very hard to spot on the outside, but the underbody showed some crumple, and the hood didn't line up to the fenders correctly. I got the dealer to drop down to 7k, but I'm not about to buy it for that. Side note, I know this car failed it's last attempt at emissions. Also worth noting, what a TURD these SN95 cars are. My 87GT would destroy it (as it has done to SN95's before). The car pulls strong to about 4500rpm, and then it just runs out of breath completely where my 87GT pulls strong clear past 5500rpm. I think it has to do with all the changes in MAF, a weak computer, and the revised intake, but all in all, it was a dog. |
