Default timing help needed

let me start by apologizing for my terminology because i am not entirely sure how to word this. after installing an 02 bullitt engine into my 98GT, everything seems to be okay except for one thing. when i place her under heavy load she seems to be missing something. she wants to let loose but it almost sounds like a misfire. many other mustang owners say it sounds like a timing issue. i have a few questions that i am having trouble finding answers to. was there a change in the offset for top dead center between the 98GTs and the 02 Bullitt? how about a change in the firing order? would a custom chip solve this issue? any help is appreciated.

Default Timing

Recommend you hurry to your nearest Dyno and have some one cut you a new chip , or have it checked out on the computer...you could be looking at detonation...very expensive!

If the firing order was wrong it wouldnt run. I would retard the timing 5 degrees and see what it does.

man are you sure it aint the rev limiter, i just put an o/r x pipe on my gt, my rev limiter is working overtime on me, i gotta get around it, because my car is taching a whole lot more, so it starts cutting out, when i get on it, it's the rev limiter, take my word for it, i think you gotta get a chip for it, dont know, when i get mine straight, will let ya know, im in the process of findinding out right now, l8ter.

Thumbs up SOLVED....

...turns out #5 wire was not giving good spark and the misfire feel was actually a misfire. i went back to my stock wires and everything was fine. continued to swap back to my 9mm wires and found that #5 was causing my prob. replaced and everything is gravy. i am kinda embarrassed but it's a learning experience - always go back to the basics!

thanks for everyone's input. hope i can repay it someday.

Its almost always something simple like that. Its amazing how a $10.00 part can cause that much trouble.

Later,

Default Great News!

Great News!

Smallest items cause the largest problems (all those little fargin' pieces and parts). That is for sure! One of the first things my dad taught me years ago when dealing with engineering and machines "One thing at a time if possible". It makes the test, diagnosis and problem fixing much easier. Always nice when it is an easily fixible small part. Kinda shows why although the darn heater core in the Mustangs has repeated failure issues (and since it takes 3 hours and a major overhaul to get to this darn little SOB, not many of us running in to order a new heater core.

I have a 98 V-6 and would love to drop a Bullitt engine in him. That would be BadA@@....
