Post Tranny question

Cool! I've been away from the computer for a while and now there's a 4.6 board! Anyway, here's a quick one if anyone can throw some speculation my way. I have a 96GT 5 speed with the stock(for now) shifter and stock T45 tranny. If the car isn't warmed up it will consistantly grind going into second when upshifting. It won't grind any other gear and after the car has run for a while it no longer grinds upshifting into second. I know very little about trannys so any input would be cool. All fluid levels check fine and the car has 52,000 miles on it. The clutch pedal also feels nice and stiff with very little play in it.

Thanks in advance for any help

Stefan

could be syncro's but you may want to try changing the fluid.

I agree change the fluid and if it still grinds you need to rebuild the snycros! If you wait too long it will tear up 2nd gear!!

Hey thanks for the info. I'll start with the fluid change. If it is the syncros, is that an expensive repair? Out of curiousity, why would bad fluid only mess up 2nd?

Thanks again for the help!

If the fluid is bad it will affect the worn parts more. You have a worn snycro in your tranny. The parts are not much but the labor is!!
