Default Question: Tranny And Starting

I purchased a 1991 GT Conv Automatic. Car won't start when it's hot (starts perfect cold). The engine turns but won't completely turn on. Already replaced spark plugs, battery, battery cables, dist cap and rotor. I also checked the PCV valve and fuel pump. Any ideas on what it could be?

Second question: Tranny shifts super hard and when I floor it, the revs are cut short between shifts (revs only go to approx 2500 rpms). Fluid level is correct. Any ideas? Thanks!

for the starting problem, maybe a bad TFI module?

If the engine turns too slow to start it oculd be a worn starter too.

I agree with tmoss, what youve said so far sounds like heat sink on the starter, my '66 does the same thing.
So does the engine seem to "lug" when you try to start it? Longtube headers can make things worse by being closer to the starter. Also having a high torque "mini" starter is not a bad idea (if you dont already have one from the factory).

As for the tranny problem, I'm not sure, but does the car have a shift kit? Sounds like something is going wonky in the valve body. My first thing would be to replace the fluid and filter. beyond that...
Does it shift properly when you do it manually?

Definately sounds like heat sink on the starter. As for the auto does it shift early even when floored? Be sure to check the TV cable that would cause early and harsh shifts. If you don't fix it the tranny will take a ****. I am not real sure how they work on fords (since I have never owned a ford auto nor have my freinds) but with Gm's you bend a tab then floor the gas and it is set.
