The T-45 is the standard 5-speed manual transmission in newer Mustangs. It replaced the T-5. TTC is Transmission Technology Corporation. TTC supplies Ford with stock transmissions, while Tremec, a subsidiary of TTC, makes heavy duty trannies for the aftermarket.

With that said, any benifit of tremec supplying ford for the newer stangs? Durability?

That's interesting.

On Steeda's web site they are selling upgraded TTC transmissions. Upgraded as in, stronger, better syncros, ect. T45s and T5s. They also sell Tremecs.

Do you happen to know anything about the upgraded TTCs?

As far as Tremec vs. Borg Warner. Its my understanding that the Tremec T45s (99+) are a lot better then the Borg Warner T45s (96-98).

Tremec, aka TTC, bought out Borg-Warner a couple of years ago. They started using different housings, and a few other parts. It threw a lot of Mustang owners for a loop, since the housings on the stock transmission had 'Tremec' stamped on them. The poor guys thought they already had Tremec HD transmissions.

According to the info posted, here are a few differences between the current T-45 and the Tremec 3550:

Needle bearings:
T-45: has them under gears 1-4
3550: has them under gears 1-5

Tapered roller bearings:
T-45: on main and countershafts
3550: on input, main and countershafts

Reverse gear:
T-45: synchro, 3.22 gear ratio
3550: no synchro, 3.01 gear ratio

Rated Torque Capacity:
T-45: 250-325
3550: 350

Ok I know my 2000 is suppose to have the T-45 and this post says its made by TTC, now this has me confused. My tranny has TREMEC right on passenger side of case. Is this a T-45 or not?

txcobra96 01-07-2001 07:28 PM

well, it all depends on what kinda engine setup you have to run the trans with. I have a 96 32v with 4:10's and i think i could use another gear, maybe like a T56 6spd . A friend has a cobra 97 with a supercharger and gears and says, 1st gear is a joke, doesn't get very far. So i figure the T-45 is good for cobras but great for the 302. I need a 6 spd to get the full potential of my engine.

Ares, your trans is a T-45. TTC chose to put Tremec on the side of all their housings.
