When was the last time in the world of automotives that so many people got on board with a cause!! There are probably some dupes here, but there are also probably some missing!!! I think it would be a good idea to call every ford dealer in texas to tell them not to hire this guy.

This is funny. Kind of like the stolen RX7 on the RX7 forum that got around, did you guys hear about that? Well anyways. This is more of a posting where you are from thread now somewhat like a "shout-out" list.
So here from www.REVscene.net <check it out.

This post has a lot of views but it sure hasn't beat our 140 Page Porno thread :D

fidget 09-29-2002 01:20 AM

Hello all...

Just dropped in like many others to share my outrage and support for the situation.

I actually heard about this the first time the other day on a talk radio station here in Detroit....finally found the link to this place through http://www.metafilter.com, an all-purpose news/interesting weblink site.

Well, if local radio stations are beginning to pick up the story, how much longer till we see a very special Dateline, "Do You Trust Your Mechanic?" episode?

My sympathies also go out to all the honest hardworking techs out there who may get a backlash out there from this. Things like this only make us appreciate the good guys more :)

That about covers it....toodles...

He who is without sin

More support from another type of vehicle enthusiast, Ducati motorcycles.

And to Blue01GT,
In general terms, I am definately not "without sin." But I can honestly say that I have had access to numerous hyper performance bikes owned by friends and acquaintances. I have always treated these bikes with the utmost respect, as the absolute worst thing I could imagine would be breaking someone else's baby. But then, I guess one would have to understand the word "respect" to understand the above. I guess it is admirable that you at least have rethought your original stance on the subject, and I agree that the "desire" is with most enthusiasts of any motorvehicles who are provided with an opportunity to drive a rare make. The difference between idiots and trustworthy, respectable people lies in what we decide to do about those desires. Especially when we have someone else's dream in our hands.

This message board has reached Ducati Online, so add that one to the list. Todd, my sympathies, and keep the faith.

just breezed in from www.genmay.com, an all purpose computer forum.

after reading the whole thread, there's not much i can say that hasn't all ready been said.

while i haven't had it happen with a car, it has happened to one of my computers. it's not fun when you trust someone with your property and they betray it. to the owners of the car, show no mercy.

revlis 09-29-2002 02:23 AM

GrandAm 09-29-2002 02:25 AM

Made it to Pontiac

Just thought I'd let everyone know it made it to my Grand Am site. This thread is gettin around!

Gotta say that guy was an idiot for doing it and even more so for posting about it.

I wrenched on cars for over 10 years and never did this. One shop was a European car shop (porsche, etc) and I would never have dreamed of doing that. One time one of our idiot mechanics took a Corvette that the shop owner requested we work on out for a night drive around the hills of San Franciso and brought it back the next morning. I got to hear all about how he was "flying" off the hills. To bad the shop owner requested we work on it because it was his attorney's Corvette. Needless to say, he was not there much longer.

Nice board. If I owned a Stang (or buy one in the future) I'd be here on a regular basis.

Cheers,

Bill

Hey Blue01GT,

Here's a newsflash for you, we aren't going to stop flaming you. I like the way you sincerely said you were sorry for your comments before. Its amazing how one can have a change of heart after the entire world jumps down their throat.
By the rest of your message its obvious you still feel the same. You are just sorry you got caught!! And by the way, not all of the people in the world are like you, sorry to burst your bubble. Some of us work for a living, have character, and believe in the value of earned trust. Trust, you know that thing that obviously no one has ever had in you!! Trust is the reason I can enter my friends car museum and I could ask him to take out any of the numerous Shelby's he has for a test drive and he would hand me the keys and say have fun. But you know what, I don't because if I can't afford my own, then I sure as hell can't afford to pay for his if I were to wreck it.
Why don't you do us all a favor, and go race you GT off a pier.

Here's a shoutout from http://mpsport.net, revscene, import classifieds and the protege owners club.

Car enthusiasts 'round the world UNITE!

I wanna say to racerat and poor todd that you've got my total support. Awesome that you've put stangman96 out in the cold & on his *** where he belongs. But I hope you get more compensation. Glad to hear you've gotten a lawyer.

It makes it hard to trust mechanics. I know there are a lot of good ones, and just some bad ones that spoil it all. It happens in just about every profession. :(

.|, to stangman96... and NO  I do NOT want my windshield squigeed right now!

blue01GT.. I hope you realize just how wrong your opinion was.

And to the rest of ya supporters... thumbs up.

Stangman: You're an idiot for driving that fast period. Doing it in another persons car makes you irresponsible. If it was your own mustang under those circumstances you probably wouldn't be getting flamed as much.

Blue01gt: You're an accessory to an idiot for defending stangman. I work at a dealership and people trust me with their cars all the time. I've never gone above 80 (on a tole road), or 45 in traffic. The vehicles I drive are Volvo S60's and S80 (you look up the price, it's alot more than a mustang.) I know that when i'm handed those keys I'm trusted with someone's car. They paid alot of money for that car, and for them to even allow me to drive it is a privilage. They trust me, and I wouldn't want them to lose their trust in me.

Stevegt: "True. Blue01GT, buy a Civic." -- Don't say that, cause then I'll have to deal with this ******* doing whatever the top speed in a civic is (95?mph). As a Nissan owner I can tell you that there are enough assholes in Civics already.

Poor Todd: You should have gotten a work order back when you got your car back from the shop. The name (or employee number) of who worked on the car should be listed on there. That's how you know for sure who drove it. Demand that the dealership be held accountable.

MineralGray02K: Nice 740 turbo.

Everyone else: Always ask around about a dealerships reputation. Poor Todd didn't have a choice since he had to go to the SVT dealer. I know that alot of the dealerships around mine have bad reputations for driving like nuts. Our mechanics take good care of the cars, and if they take one to lunch its for a real roadtest (ODBII hooked up and taking snapshots), and the customer knows about it.

i have just spent about 1.5-2hrs reading all this, and all i have to say is if someone even rubs my car the wrong way i'm breathin down there neck, much less rag it out. by the way i live 45min. away from san antonio, and if i could find this guy it would be a means to an end. dont think about coming to austin brotha.

blue01gt: your an idoit, nuff said.

what would you have done in his position? i think 99% of all people on this site really would have done the same thing no matter what they claim to have chosen to do. being sensible and practical is not part of being a mustang enthusiast. STUPID is old grey-haired people like you that own a 400hp car and drive it like a freekin geo metro

Personally, I would have taken that car out to at LEAST 140 just like stangman and to HELL with the consequences. (i drive 150 in my GT every time i go up the I-5). And regarding the unsafe practice of speeding.. OF COURSE WE KNOW ITS DANGEROUS AND IRRESPONSIBLE!!! thats what makes it fun!! if its safe, slow, and practical, then its boring and, to quote you, "stupid". people who soup up mustangs will drive their cars like fighterjets and thats just the nature of the beast. its an addiction that is celebrated, not shunned.

Part of servicing cars is making sure they work right and a factory-supercharged cobra is designed to be redlined and worked hard. its got 6speeds for a reason! so how do you know its working right unless its driven like a cobra should be driven? Im sure stangman found a nice empty straight road to go 140 and did his "stupid" act as "smart" as possible. I am envious of stangman, and i wish him many more kickass test drives in cobras.

if that was my car, i wouldnt have complained about those so-called "problems" in the first place. and if it was broken by a techie, id just make the dealership give me a new one. the responsibility and risk was on his hands and the customer had nothing to lose except maybe a few extra days with a rental car.

when was the last time you even squealed tire or redlined your engine, wade73? 20 years ago when you were able to floor the gas without breaking a hip? maybe you should invest in an astrovan with a wheelchair lift, mustangs are wasted on people like you.

**** You *** hole. My wife is in a wheelchair I wish I'd know where you live I'd kill you with my bare hands.

Magiarn 09-29-2002 10:54 AM

I saw this on a Lincoln Mark VII board.

1. It's ridiculous.
2. It should be common sense that nobody should defend this guy.
3. To say that if you dont run your car hard all the time, you're not an enthusiast, is complete bunk. Be smart and save it for the track.
4. To say that having the car DYNOED is the same as what was done is VERY ignorant. I havent seen threads like this about Dyno operators blowing motors, hitting buildings or rolling over the vehicles....There isn't as much opportunity for disaster in a controlled environment.
5. I only let people drive any of my six vehicles when ABSOLUTELY necessary. My girlfriend of four years doesn't even touch them. On the same note, I WILL NOT drive someone elses car unless there's another option. That's just me. If I wreck my car or truck, fine, but if someone else does, no matter WHO it is, there will be resentment.

In this case, neither the S60 or the S80 starts out more expensive than a $40k Mustang Cobra convertable. Not to mention the Cobra's are seeing thousands of extra tacked onto them in most cases due to the very limited nature of the car.

Don't know if you're referring to me or not. Yes I have seen and heard of engines being blown up on dynos. It's why many operators ask you to sign a waiver. If you've ever seen dynoing being done you might notice that taking a car up to redline while in a 1:1 gear generally results in a few seconds of all the car has, along with the driveline being subjected to spinning the wheels at triple digit speeds.

My point stands. If you've taken your car to a dyno, and had it tuned, and tested on it before the car has gone through initial break-in, you have little room to complain about possible damage from some numbnutz punk SVT mechanic taking your car out for a 140mph joy ride.

That being said, we don't know if the car was in the initial break in phase, not that it matters. Outside of the break in the engine will not be harmed from a "normal" 140mph run either. Now the way he operated the car during that run could be disputed. He may have overreved it, ground gears in the tranny, etc. He admitted he beat the hell out of the car, and that's why I feel there should be at least an extended warranty for free tacked on.

Mikes95XLT 09-29-2002 11:09 AM

We're here too

Even though I don't own a car, cause it's a truck, I'd still like to show my support as a fellow Ford owner..... I've been keeping up with this since the day I heard about it... and I still can't believe that someone would be that stupid as to 1) Do something like that to a car like that and 2) Brag about it. I can officially say that stangman96 deserves the dipshit award for this year..... congratulations!!!!!!!!!!

You can find our support at www.explorerforums.com

Good luck!!!:D

No, not you Unit, a Stangman original that stated that she had it dynoed anyway so it was already run hard...Maybe it was, but like I said, the environment is more controlled and there isnt as much danger subjected to it. I know theyve been blown, but Ive never seen a thread on it of this magnitude going after the operator. They are supposed to be in it pressin the pedal...

a couple comments concerning the consequences of this incident:

*this board must have serious bandwith issues because of this thread. I'd recommend closing it, but not deleting.
*this is a perfect poster thread for internet (in)fame. You're better off bragging to your local bartender than on a message board.
*somewhere else on this forum it was said that this is the most notorious message board on the internet. I don't agree; the coverage you have here could possibly fuel interest in mustangs, cobras, etc.. and that comment is coming from me, an anonymous french pedestrian.
*for people who came here from links posted all over the web, take the time to look around. It shows respect to the fulltime members here.

O.k. I might be going out on a limb here, but, I think this guy might have been a little sarcastic when he said that. However, he's right, it goes on at alot of dealerships. I know people who have worked for Chrysler dealers, G.M., Ford and they all have their storiesto tell.

Unit 5302 09-29-2002 12:45 PM

Thanks for the clarification, Magiarn. You're right about it being a much more controlled environment in the fact it's not an extended mile long WOT, bangin gears, thrashing of a car.

I was fortunate enough/unfortunate enough to attend an all day (10hr long) dyno session on a 540ci big block Chev with a procharger, and N20. We went through over 20 gallons of 116oct race gas mix. Heh, that engine is definately worse for wear in my book, LOL.

rue, this particular board is running the message forums on a temporary dual processor server, and the connection is controlled with a fractional T3. The initial period of being very slow and unresponsive was due to the normal single processor box being overloaded, and a queue forming, and later when the boxes were being switched out. I haven't noticed any problems since the dual processor box has been placed. Locking the thread wouldn't slow the number of hits it was getting as most people are not posting, just viewing. If the board was still unable to keep up, I'd agree with the topic being cut off, but as long as it seems responsive, I don't see the need for it to be shut down.

I would also agree, as I posted on the "infamous comment" thread, that this board hasn't had it's reputation dirtied by these events. I think the vast majority of our normal users have ripped stangman96 a new one. I think this has been a great thread, and certainly worthy of being kept open. Take a look at the group of enthusiasts who've come together!

Has anybody linked Ford SVT to this thread? With nearly 200,000 views, I'd think they might be interested in something of this magnitude.

Amazing!

I've just finally gotten the time to read this entire thread, and I must say that I am incredibly impressed with the collective support from enthusiasts of all walks of life - both automotive and otherwise! This is amazing.

I'm going to go on record as saying that Mr. & Mrs. Todd have the full support of Club Grand Prix, Rocky Mountain Club Grand Prix (of which I am the admin), and Colorado Club DSM. You've been wronged, and I hope that things are settled to your satisfaction. I think the dealer in question has no choice but to play along; how many potential customers have they already lost, and how many more would they lose if they try to debate the issue?

To the 'tech' that committed this crime... Man, I really wouldn't want to be in your shoes right now. How you received your first official ***-kicking on the street yet? :D

I can't say too much more that hasn't already been said, but I will add this:

Stangman, you are the Official AssClown of the Year.

coderx75 09-29-2002 02:05 PM

WOW! =D

This has spread to the computer game development community (http://www.gamedev.net/). =)

I just happen to link from the gamedev site and began reading. I was pretty blown away buy stangman's stupidity but what is even more amazing is that this took place at Northside Ford in San Antonio. I live in SA and was just at that dealership last week and was thinking about buying a car from them.

This thread has changed my mind about my purchase. I will either find a different Ford dealership or I'll stick to my tried and true Hondas =)

quiet hot head 09-29-2002 02:10 PM

Heard about this from http://corvetteforum.com

None of you know me here; so take this for what you think its worth:

to stangman96:
Imagine the sensation of swallowing a mixture of your own
blood and teeth. Maybe not tomorrow, nor next week; nor two years from now. But when you least expect it; from one of many that are capable.

to Badass_yellowGT (i have to say though don`t blame the tech for frying tires.):
It's not your personal property.

(anybody who brings there car to the dealer for repairs instead of doing them repairs themself):
When buying a new car; part of the price is the free warranty service. I paid for it; and I will get what I paid for.

to Titan (go stangman...next time, stop by Ga-Tech and pick me up):
Imagine the sensation of swallowing a mixture of your own
blood and teeth. Maybe not tomorrow, nor next week; nor two years from now. But when you least expect it; from one of many that are capable.

to Blue01GT (i think 99% of all people on this site really would have done the same thing no matter what they claim to have chosen to do.):

no, 99% of the people YOU hang with. And your later back-peddling does nto get you off the hook.

(Personally, I would have taken that car out to at LEAST 140 just like stangman and to HELL with the consequences.):

Imagine the sensation of swallowing a mixture of your own
blood and teeth. Maybe not tomorrow, nor next week; nor two years from now. But when you least expect it; from one of many that are capable.
Those will be YOUR consequences; and on that day you will finally grow up.

(I dont think he should have pounced on stangman for making that cobra run a little. having wade73 insult stangman on this forum for letting that cobra stretch its legs)

it is not your personal property; it belongs to someone else.

mustangs are wasted on people like you

it is not your property; and its none of your business what people do with things they bought with their own money

maybe you should invest in an astrovan with a wheelchair lift,

ahhh; maybe YOU should....and soon little man.

to Skyman (THE CAR HAS BEEN THRASHED ON ON A DYNO).

doesn't matter how the owner drives the car. Their car is not your personal property.

to CrotchrocketCBR; (im a tech at an SVT dealership here in FL, and i cannot wait untill another 03 cobra comes in, because i will beat the living piss out of that car, )

just because your parents never spanked you; doesn't mean the rest of us can't get our hands on you.

(beat the living piss out of...).

Be careful what you wish for.

And if this forum wants to remain a quality site; those responsible/adult posters should mock "stangman96" and all those that supported him or his actions... EVERY TIME THEY POST. You will eventually shame them away. Then after they grow up and stop wacking off hourly; maybe they will re-join the forum under a different name and start contributing to the forums continued success.

All you little boys can laugh my comments off; especially in front of your friends to look big. Me; and others like myself are plenty "big" without having to say a word, and have a lot of patience, and will see to it that the right thing gets done at some time down the road.

Sleep tight.

Not Cool

I read about this on the Mustang 428 Cobra Jet site:
http://pub88.ezboard.com/bmustang428...tregistryforum

Having owned a 90 5.0 Mustang convertible and currently a 94 SHO and a 69 428CJ Cougar convertible I'd have been real angry if I knew someone was intentionally trashing my car.
I know it's happened with my SHO. I had some work done at MOSSY FORD in San Diego and the SHO came back with the front bumper cover pushed up over the driving light frame support. They said it came in that way! Lying scumbags. Finally, they did agree to pay half, like an idiot I just let it go at that. It still cost me $300. I'm looking at a new Fords, guess where I won't be buying from!!!!

I've done some pretty stupid things in MY cars (I did 135 on I-5 to SF, traffic was nonexistant, but it was still dumb.........and it was a long time ago!) but the point is they are MY cars. If it breaks it's my fault. I've also been kind of hard on cars when I test drive them (the dealership owns them and the salesperson is along to say "whoa" or turns white, whichever comes first) but never over 100.

That mechanic sounded like a misogynist, hating that woman because she owned a new Cobra convertible. A little jealous perhaps?

It makes me happy to see that justice has and is being served. Tracy, keep up the pressure and don't stop until you make that Dealer squeal.:D :D

Some philosophical points for Stangman96 to ponder, and as a James Earl Jones said in Conan the Barbarian, "Contemplate this on the tree of woe, crucify him."

"Life is tough... It's even tougher when you are stupid."
"The stupid shall be punished"
"Better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."

Oh, and Stangman96... In your new job, don't forget to ask, "And what kind of sauce would you like with those nuggets, sir?"

sorry about double post...

Wow...

Heard about this originally from Cheers and Gears Forums. I think the entire staff of CheersandGears.com, as well as Heritage Reborn (global cadillac owners/enthusiasts network) would like to affirm that we are truly appalled, and that as enthusiasts and members of the automotive industry we always work to provide the best for our clients, and work to reward those dealers that provide exceptional service. Even though I am a "GM Guy", I must say to you: don't take anything against Ford or its dealers as a whole. There are going to be crazy people in the world, and they'll do crazy things. This nutcase got what he wanted; he got the attention of hundreds of thousands of car fans, and at least a few dozen people like myself who work within the industry, and has lawyers crawling all over him by now. I'm sure this will serve as a lesson to all: dealers, owners, and technicians alike. But rest assured, that within the industry, we're trying to provide you the best...

(BTW: I was strongly cautioned about posting so publicly like this, but what the hell, I think I needed to get the word out that we're listening.)

Cheers,

It's on Moparts.com now

Hi all,

My mother just emailed me with a link to this thread. After reading a few pages, I decided to post it over on Moparts.com. I'm sure many of us will be shocked and surprised too. I'm not really a Mustang guy, but I hate to see anyone's car abused like that by anyone other than them. At least the idiot has been fired. I just wanted to weigh in with some support. By the way, Ford lover or not, I have to say that the '03 Cobra rocks! I've only seen one in person, and the guy was religious about keeping it clean and perfect. For what it's worth, my wife has a '97 V6 Mustang, and it runs great. Stock as the day it rolled off the showroom floor, reliable and dependable.

Norfolk_Mustard 09-29-2002 04:10 PM

It's on LOTUSBBS.com

It's made it all the way to the UK on the Lotus bulliten board.

I caught a tech here in the UK giving my old Elise full throttle across the car park, the discussion with the dealership principle wasn't pleasant, for him.

BerettaBri 09-29-2002 05:08 PM

This is from the Beretta community over at bstuff.com & the beretta.net message board. Me & my colleagues express concern on the matter at hand. This is an outrage to car owners everywhere & I've hoped we've all learned our lesson about gettin our car fixed. I too, have had to wait 6 and a half hours to have my car have it's oil changed & tires rotated. In that time, I dunno what happened, but I hope the worst didn't. I express my sympathy to the owner of the Cobra... Oh & by the way Stangman, you earn: http://www.marist.edu/~KBPPK/assclown.jpg

I read earlier that it was only a $35k car. I know for fact that the S80's are atleast $39k, and the executive edition is over $45k (another limited car). I've also driven the C70 convertible that's well over $48K. who cares though, they're both Ford products now. :o

It was bad enough that he told us he did this, Then he gives us the license number of the car he did this to.

Just dropping in from www.i-club.com (Subaru Owners Club). I think I speak for everyone there when I say that this is a horrible problem that happens everyday but goes un noticed until someone as stupid as this guy comes around.

I think I said starting price, didn't I? If not, I can correct myself now. The $35k comment was incorrect as I forgot it was a convertable. The coupe is $35k, the vert closer to $40k.

If you went by the Ford deal, what if the tech thrashes an Aston Martin Vanquish? Hehe. That's now under Ford as well, and is what, like $200k?

Doesn't really matter though, the tech thrashed the owners car, period.
