It Was Waaaaaaaaaay Cool

MAN IT WAS WAY COOL, DROVE A '03 COBRA VERT TODAY THAT WAS IN THE SHOP, ME AND ANOTHER TECH TOOK IT OUT AND DROVE IT, DROVE HER HARD, 6 SPEED TRANNY, WE HIT 140 MPH REAL QUICK, TALK ABOUT POWER. NOT THAT WE DO IT HERE ALL THE TIME, BUT I JUST HAD TO RUN IT, IT WAS CALLING MY NAME... :p THE POWER IT HAS IN UNREAL, YOU JUST NEED TO GET OUT AND TEST DRIVE ONE TODAY, BY THE WAY, THE CUSTOMER'S COMPLAINT WAS LACK OF POWER AND POOR GAS MILEAGE, WHAT A CROCK... NEEDLESS TO SAY, IT IS OWNED BY A FEMALE, SHE EVEN SAID IT WAS DYNOED AT A SHOP AND THEY TOLD HER THAT THE CONVERTORS WERE TOO HOT AND THE FUEL TRIM WAS WAY OFF. I HOOKED IT UP TO THE COMPUTER, FUEL TRIM WAS NORMAL, CAT TEMP WAS OK, NO CODES, AND IT RAN GREAT. GO FIGURE.. :p OH YEAH, SHE EVEN TOLD THE SERVICE WRITER TO MAKE SURE THAT NO "PUNK" DRIVES HER CAR, WELL SINCE I AM THE MUSTANG SPECIALIST HERE AT THE DEALER, I GUESS I AM "THE PUNK", ALL THE MORE TO DRIVE HER '03 COBRA VERT AND SEE WHAT ITS GOT.. HEHE  HOPE SHE DIDNT HAVE A HIDDEN CAMERA IN THAT CAR...... GET THIS, HER PLATES SAY "**** **"

I don't know if that would be a very good idea....

Customers would be complaining about tires coming back bald after the car was serviced... ;)

GaryDawg 09-20-2002 02:52 PM

That is a mustang owner's nightmare...

To leave your car in the care of a service department only to have some joker take it out and abuse it...

It's not your car...

Oh, and BTW....

turn off your caps lock...

Remind me not to take a car to your shop.

While I understand that you were theoretically, "diagnosing" the problem, it seems a little overboard. Glad you had fun though.

it was just a 1rst time kinda ride thing ya know, i had to do it. i drive my 96 and wanted to test the power... besides, if i broke it, i'd have to fix it anyway, and most likely get paid to do it too.. hehe, but all in all, i am 99% good to all cars.. :p

jj_jonathon 09-20-2002 03:41 PM

now i know what they do to my GT when the service it....considering its the nicest stang theyve ever sold at that dealer....

man id be pissed if i ever found out someone did that to my brand new cobra.......im torn between cool and not cool zeus...hrmm...but if i was in your position...ergg...talk about a choice....i certainly wouldnt have taken it to 140  ....wow....

98SteedaGT 09-20-2002 05:01 PM

Hopefully her or her husband, or friends don't read this board.... Would be a shame if they found out and called the dealer up with written proof...... I know I would try to file a formal complaint and get all I could from a dealer that did something like that to my car.....

Well, stangman....
Looks like you might want to consider the other side of things before you joyride....
Although I must admit its REALLY tempting, I can see where I'd be pissed if a mechanic did that with the yellow beastie...

(That's why if I'm not working on it, I take it to someone I trust. And even THEN I'm right there with them when they're doing the work.) :D

Badass_yellowGT 09-20-2002 10:41 PM

i have to say though don`t blame the tech for frying tires anybody who brings there car to the dealer for repairs instead of doing them repairs themself deserves what they get please don`t flame just my opinion:D

Titan 09-21-2002 01:14 AM

I agree...take it for a ride...if you're fixing it, it needs to be "fixed"...go stangman...next time, stop by Ga-Tech and pick me up

Red Mustang Gt 46 09-21-2002 07:23 AM

That car will probably see harder times anyhow...
I caught a tech doing the same thing on my 79 Z28 (modified 406 s/b of course). While I was'nt really enthused by the moment , I was amused at seeing and hearing my car scream with the rear end sliding all around....especially when the guy came back to the shop and seeing that ear to ear smile...it was'nt so bad after that.

stangman96 09-23-2002 12:00 PM

ok ok ok, i guess i didnt think of that, you know, customer being a member, doubtful, but possible... well, be it as it may, i will cross that bridge when i get there... however, there are the few customers that bring in their cars and have you do loads of work and diagnosing, just for them to decline the repairs... so it works out in the end, they make me loose money, i drive their car hard!!

Am I going to be the only voice of reason here?

Personally I think the original post is absolute bunk, but I will take the bait anyway:

I don't care if you are a tech, doing a 140 mph on public roads, is flat at STUPID. To make matters worse, the person that they entrust their cars care to, i.e. YOU, decide to take their $35K car (regardless if its an '03 Cobra or not) out for a joyride. It doesnt matter so much if you wreck it at 140, because unless you are a little green leprechan with ALL the luck of the Irish on your side, you won't be around to explain yourself. You are the kind of person that makes me want to put a GPS tracking system in my car just for that reason. Lets see you get a job at any halfway decent auto repair shop after explaining that the reason you got fired from your last one was for abusing a paying customers car. taking a car up to 140 mph? to diagnose what? amount of downforce? "unusual vibration"?

one word: STUPID

please tell me you don't actually believe that...your reasoning behind that is the most asinine and immature thing I have ever read on mustangworks, and that is saying something. can you tear your car down to the absolute last nut and bolt, from the engine to the tranny, remove every bit of mechanical items, and break those down, completely strip and remove the interior, take apart, deprogram, rehook, and reprogram every computer / electronic part, THEN put it all back together yourself? not flaming you, just calling your subtle little bluff...if you can, then i have a job at NASA waiting on you...

not everyone has the mechanical skills / ability (learned or otherwise) to do ALL the repairs on their cars. to believe that they do is very naive. don't get me wrong, i like working on my car (not when something goes wrong mind you, just more money to dump in it), but i am not going to take the chance of doing something over my head and wind up just screwing up something else in the process

That's really not cool to drive someone elses car like that. I just had a dumb question. What does that license plate mean?
