Also here representing the Minnesota F-Body Club, www.mnfbody.com So I only saw 2 or 3 posts from Poor Todd the owners husband... whatever came of this? What was the finally outcome from the dealer... obviously the guy is fired. I think some of you need to chill out and give the poor sap a break. He showed poor judgement in taking it up to 140 mph, and poor judgement in bragging about it on a public message board, but the way some of you are carrying on, calling for tar and feathers and his head on a platter, is a bit much. He's already apparently gotten fired over this. Please consider the following points:
"Abuse"?? This machine was being driven within its designed operating parameters. It is equipped with speed-rated tires, etc., etc., etc. This is not a '69 pony with a 289 2bbl, here. "Abuse" would be power-slides and nuclear burnouts or speeding down a rough road. He claims he was on an abandoned airstrip (probably illegal anyway). This should not damage the engine, or any other part of the vehicle, and the owner should be satisfied with an apology from the dealer and a few oil changes or detail jobs, and that the guy lost his job. From a strictly diagnostic viewpoint, he was doing his job. The first rule is to confirm the problem (or lack thereof). The first shop dynoed the thing and claimed fuel trim out of specs and overheated converters (is this "abuse" during break-in? Actually, I don't buy the break-in thing anyway. If the rings are seated and it doesn't have "break-in" oil in the crankcase, then go for it). The complaint was "lack of power and poor fuel mileage" ("Poor fuel mileage"!!) He found no codes and no problems in the shop, so he test-drove the vehicle. The customer saying, "Don't let some 'punk' drive it," is very telling to me, and probably rightfully offended the technician. He is not some valet parking attendant, but rather, as he said, the Hi-po Mustang specialist. Possibly a very good one, too. I don't think he'll have too much trouble getting another job, despite the efforts to blackball him here (might need to work on his attitude a bit!) What I find sad is that he posted here out of his sheer love of hot rod Mustangs (owning one), raving about the car, only to be ratted-out by some of his fellow Mustang enthusiasts. For shame! But then, I'd rather push a Chevy than... |

Isn't that kind of what I said? "And some things are better left to yourself." Could you please explain this a bit?

2003 Cobra Owner Statement
At the request of Tracy (RaceRat), who owns the 2003 Mustang Cobra Convertible this whole controversy started over, I am posting a statement she sent me via Email. In addition, at her request, I am now also closing this thread.
On a personal note, I am glad that the forum MustangWorks.com provides to all its members and readers was able to play a pivotal role in helping one of our fellow enthusiasts not only find out she had been wronged, but give her the power to right that wrong and bring the power of public pressure to bare. Hopefully this will bring about a positive change within the automotive service industry. As, what played out here was the fear of almost every automotive enthusiast and what we all know is an all to common occurrence. Hopefully the next time someone's pride and joy is entrusted to the care of an automotive professional, and the business he/she works for, there will be extra thought paid to how that enthusiast's vehicle and trust is treated. Quote:
However, it really caught fire and was widely noticed on Wednesday, September 25th. By 11 PM that night word of this thread and links to it had spread to several hundred message boards. Wednesday night at that time our web server was taking 1300 requests per second, which literally brought it to a halt. This is when I personally became aware of the thread, what was happening regarding it, and the serious server load situation on our single dedicated web server. On Thursday evening, just to keep the site functioning, we acquired a dual processor server box and spent until 6 AM Friday morning just getting it configured, up and running, and moving the forums over to it. As such, you may have noticed at that time the forums were then being forwarded the IP address of the new server. This kept the forums alive, and the load off the rest of the site, but it was still getting so hammered that even the new box being completely dedicated to the forums couldn't fully keep up. Additionally, we were told on Thursday, September 26th, news about this controversy and MustangWorks.com was discussed on Deminski & Doyle's Detroit's 97.1 FM radio. Then, we also heard that on Friday September 27th, news about the thread and MustangWorks.com was discussed during Detroit's famous WRIF 101 FM's Drew & Mike's morning radio show. Furthermore, Tracy has indicated that it was also on local TV in San Antonio, and that she was also contacted by several print magazines regarding this story. Finally, for several days our servers were transferring like 25 GB's of data each day and receiving millions of page views each day. Mustang Works servers are connected to the Internet via a 2.5 Mbit pipe. For almost five days straight the data transfer was at a 2 MBit average with bursts to our 2.5 MBit maximum, and that is with GZip compression being utilized on our web servers too. Fortunately, our connection and our SCSI raid database server muddled through it all... Furthermore, our simultaneous who's online count on the forums hit 1000+ on October 2nd. Well, things have died back down a bit, but all we can say here is WOW! NO ONE should doubt the power of the Web.
