What first on 2001 GT???
My GT should be in this week and I have about $600-700 to spend on mods. I was thinking I could do exhaust or a couple other little things. Here are my choices:
1. Borla Exhaust and Bassani X-pipe w/cats 2. Steeda pulleys, tri-ax, timing adjuster, and 4.10's I was kinda leaning towards #2 for the improvement in performance. What do you guys think? Should I go for #1 or #2 and why ------------------ 91 GT AOD: 14.71@91.78mph SOLD!! 01 GT 5-speed on order: Ordered: 06/13/01 |

Your #2 option will be your best bet as far as performance goes. Those 3 mods will really hep knock off some ET, and make daily driving much more fun. The 4:10's will turn oyur GT into an animal, the pulleys will release some HP, and the shifter will make sure that the 2-3 shift will go much smoother.
Your #1 option will be more for some extra HP and especially sound. The catback will only be worth about 3 hp because the factory catback flows pretty darn good. But the X-pipe is what will open things up. Expect around 10-14 hp for the combo. And the sound will be what car enthusiests live for. ------------------ 1997 Thunderbird 4.6L: Dynomax exhaust, Lightning 80mm MAF with 7" powerstack cone filter, B&M 24,000GVW trans cooler, Inject-Tech chip, KVR Brake upgrade. 15.2 @ 91. If I go with option #2, what else will I need to hang with or beat a 2000 Camaro SS m6?? My friend might be getting one and I want to beat him. I'm a better driver than him too. It's his first stick.

With the 4:10's, and the little amounts of power that the timing adjuster and Pullies add (I guessing about 8-13 rear wheel HP) you should be able to hang with an SS. I've never ran an SS so I cant really say that much.

You should most likley take him with those mods. I dropped 1/2 a second in the quarter mile with my Nitto drag radials. I would put those on just in case.

I was planning on getting a pair of drag radials but not until next spring. For now, I'll have to make use with the stock tires.
What are some other worthwhile mods that I can do for the 4.6? I don't know that much about the 4.6 because I used to have a 5.0 I'm trying to learn as much as I can about this engine. ------------------ 91 GT AOD: 14.71@91.78mph SOLD!! 01 GT 5-speed on order: Ordered: 06/13/01 |

Offroad H (10RWHP)
Pullies (9-10RWHP) Timing Adjuster (9RWHP) K&N (1-2RWHP) For what it's worth I was running 13.60-13.55 with stock gears, Nitto DR's and Offroad H. Bone stock it ran 14.02@97.9 so it wasn't a really strong car stock. ------------------ 00 GT, MAC Offroad H, Steeda Pulleys & Timing Adjuster, 4.10’s, Flows w/turndowns, UPR shifter, UPR Pro Series LCA’s, Lakewood 70/30’s & 50/50’s, 253.8 RWHP/292.8RWTQ 12.91@101.93 (1.74 60ft) M/M 100, 7085 2001 Mod Motor Shootout 2V NA Champion Recent Pic from Moroso |

It looks like I'm probably not going to get it before the end of July. My salesman said it was already built and was going to ship last week. Now, he says that he doesn't know if it is even built yet. I just love having to deal with this hassle.
It looks like I'm gonna have like 1k to spend by the time I get it. Hello drag radials ------------------ 91 GT AOD: 14.71@91.78mph SOLD!! 01 GT 5-speed on order: Ordered: 06/13/01 |

I think you can take or atleast hang with him. I raced one with my mods and I left him 1st and 2nd gear but he pulled on me in 3rd(I need an H pipe and 2 chambers). With 4.10's you should have a better launch then me and a Bassani Xpipe will help you in you top end. So goodluck.

I would definitely go with option 2. Also, option 1 would be more like $1000 plus installation of the catback.

I think I'm gonna try and do both option 1 and 2. By the time my car arrives (if it even does at all), I would be able to do both. I might have a little extra for a little 75hp shot of juice too

Go with the tires first. Then save for a blower.

My best friend has a 2000 SS we run together all the time. We have not been to the strip yet,but then both of us are more into road type racing. The more hills and curves the better we like it. Anyway heres the scoop. I have a 01 GT(no mods yet),electric green,5-speed,coup. Got it in March as a 25th wedding anniversary gift from my wife. What a woman!! Brings back the days of my 70 Mach 1 I had when we met. My friends SS has an auto and t-bar roof and once in awhile we swap rides,it's a nice car. From 0-70 I got'em all the way, from 70-80 he hangs with me,from 80 to about 100 he gains on me and from that point on we're about equal. Have been up to 130 mph. What a rush. On winding roads and hills its no contest' I own him. His automatic just can't hang with my stick. By the way he did do some air modifications to his SS,but nothing has changed.
