What part is this???? '96 Mustang Cobra Upper Plenum

Mustang Cobra Upper Plenum, I'm not dumb or anything, I've driven a 80's iroc camaro for 3 years and knew the car from top to bottom but switched to my mustang 4 months ago and knew just about nothing about my car, Mustang Cobra Upper Plenum, thats the part with the snake on it right, on top of the intake manifold. Quick other question, i'm gonna swap heads and all and i was just wondering (not gonna do it) but someone on here said if i got a new manifold i could put the Cobra Upper Plenum on my gt engine, just wondering, thanks

I've heard others call the upper intake manifold a plenum, but I've always known them as upper and lower intake manifolds.
Don't forget that Cobras also come with an IMRC (Intake Manifold Runner Control) along with the lower intake manifold.

I don't think that is correct.
I've never seen a DOHC Cobra intake on a 4.6 SOHC motor before. Not saying its impossible, but I doubt it.

If you're looking for an intake\heads combo, go with the 00-02 PI heads\intake or the SVO heads\intake....

Slight commentary...

Is this question not from the same person who was asking about his "friend" passing a GT off as a Cobra? Why would one want to go to the trouble of matching uppers and lowers when there are better flowing combos out there?

Hmmm, kinda makes you wonder, eh?

No the upper Cobra intake will not bolt to a GT lower I don't care how much you modify it. Two different heads and completely different set ups.

That's because the only available intakes for the 96-98 GT's is the SVO/FRPP intake which is close to $1800 complete. There is nothing else available and I wouldn't count on anything being made. Fact is if you want to go really fast easy look at a power adder or you can just be happy with bolt-ons but I wouldn't expect to see heads or intake from an outside company any time soon.

Intake manifolds

FYI ! HCI in Sacramento Ca. have designed a new intake manifold for the GT's and Cobra's. Ablown Cobra will pick up approx. 60 rwhp with this addition. They also have Stage 1,2 and 3 heads for all combinations. All they work on is Ford and Vi pers.

P.S. the price of the manifold for my Cobra is $1100.00 installed
planning on the heads and manifold this summer.

I hope it's not the one they put out a year ago. If so that same intake lost 50RWTQ! Also it did not gain 60RWHP on a NA motor but on a blown motor. Plus it would have to be a different intake fo a Cobra and a GT two different heads and are not compatable.

I thought you read my post...I said blown Cobra not n/a...and yes I do understand the differance between the GT and Cobra.

Guess I must have missed it where you combined A and blown into Ablown.

Mod max is working on an intake aren't they??

Anywhosit, the plenum would be the big open area between the throttle body and the intake runners. From what I've seen increasing this volume yields a small improvement in power and seeing as how the GT intake seems to be like a conventional carb intake with hella-long runners curled up underneath then I suppose the spacer has less to do with increasing plenum volume than it has to do with giving the air a better path to negotiate? Then again I wonder?????????

Where did you get your info on the intake manifold designed by HCI...they lost 50lbs. torque...data I have is quite differen't. They built my last motor, incul. a n/a Viper pulling 873 rwhp at 5700 rpm's. a 633 rwhp cobra plus many more success builds. I've been thru 3 motors and finally found thes guys in Sac. Ca. best work I have ever seen...when you can back up the statement, rather than rumor I would like to see it.

No reflection on your spelling, just a general observation on all things and my uncontrollable sarcasam...

First off you can not compare a Viper or any other motor than the 4.6 that is what I'm talking about here. I'm commenting on the HCI intake for the Cobra I have no experience and frankly don't care about Viper or any other cars motor.

One of the first production HCI intakes that made was put on a NA 4v car to prove their results and the car lost tons of torque below 4K RPM and at one point it was near 50 Ft Lb Tq and gained about 20RWHP. That was after 5-6 hours of tuning as well. The post was on the Corral but is over a year old and I'm not about to search through their achives (if it wasn't lost) to find it. Blower cars are a different story but short runner intakes are designed for FI (forced induction) cars and don't work well on NA cars. They are made for high RPM racing applications not your average street cars.

Also if you want to be picky about wording your the one that stated:

Quote:

Insinuating that there is one new intake to fit both Cobra's and GT's which isn't possible. That is why I said there was a difference because there was and your statement was misleading. Just like your statement of picking up 60RWHP with a blown Cobra like anyone with an S trim would do this. When in fact they won't, without knowing the entire set up on the motor plus I've love to see that dyno chart before and after to see the different in torque since that changes drastically with a short runner intake.
