Thumbs up Results with Box Upper on my 347 verses Cobra

I recently reported that I ran a 10.718 @ 123.02 mph with my 347 and Cobra intake. Shift points were approximately 5000 rpm. On another run shifting at 6000 my time dropped to 11.027 @ 120.01 mph.
Now I have installed a box upper. First run shifting at 6000 rpm, which compares to my 11.027 run, I ran a 10.657 @ 121.67 mph. All runs after this I lost traction so I have no times with shifting at 5000 rpm. Based on my dyno results with the box I feel my optimum shift rpm is about 5500. Unfortunately, I didn't get those results. I feel do have more et with the box by shifting at 5500. This 10.657 is a fair comparison to the Cobra as both were same shift points. That is a .37 gain with less peak hp on the dyno. This pretty much proves that hp/torque over the range is better than a higher peak hp/torque.

Now for the 1 3/4 long tubes. I'll report their results in a week or so hopefully.

Hey goto www.prestage.com/ and use their shift claculator if you have a dyno sheet. It'll calculate the proper shift points based on trans gear ratios.

gp001,

No problem. Hope my tests will help others not make the same mistakes I have made.

My next step as I have mentioned is to install the 1 3/4 Hooker long tubes and get an et. Assuming I am going to pick up et as everyone has told me I will, then I'll install the Victor 5.0 intake and compare it to the Comp Cams box I now have. The one that loses will be forsale. My killer GTP 75 mm inlet Cobra upper has already lost by about .37 seconds to the box. Both the box and Cobra upper were on the same ported Cobra lower. I actually welded the lower and ported it to 1262 Fel Pro. The only limitation there is the round 1.65 diameter opening in the lower. Hopefully the Victor 5.0 will improve et as so many have told me it will over the box. I hope to have a GTP ported Cobra upper, ported Cobra lower and a GT40 box forsale.

Forget whatever I said about your dyno results in your post a week or so ago. Running 10's with that 347 is freaking awesome! Nice job

Good luck getting the shift points worked out with the new intake - and keep us posted on the track times.

Thanks Eric!

On that 10.657 run I did a wheelie. Before I can make anymore of those kind of launches I have to get a spool. Don't want to take a chance of running into the siderail. My 60' was a 1.418 and it came up where I couldn't see the track. Kinda frightening the first time that happens.

Larry,
Maybe you should be writing a tech article? With the amount of Research and real world, unbiased (brand wise), testing and comparison you're doing it's comparable to reading a years worth of magazine articles ;-) I realize your setup is pretty specific, but it sure gives the rest of us a good idea of how these different products actually work. Thanks again for taking the time to keep us informed.

gp001,

I am glad you are enjoying my reports. I just enjoy sharing what I have found. I sure do have more to come with my little stang. I'll report my results with the 1 3/4 long tubes but right now I need to be sure my car is safe with the front wheels off the ground. If one wheel pulls to hard or one side lets up, wall her we come. A spool is to prevent this occurance. Just got to find the right spool/axle combination for my 347. Then I'll be able to nail it again.
