Question Will 2000 GT "wake up?"

Ive had my 2000 GT for about 3 weeks now, and it's got 700 miles on it. It is definitely a strong runner, but my 97 GT felt every bit as powerful, and had 45 less horses. What Im wondering is whether the engine will get stronger as it gets broken in? Is this a common occurance? Ive had 2 other stangs, and Ive modded them; the 2000 will be no exception, but in the meantime, will the car ever "wake up?"

Have you ever run it on the track or with a GTECH? Sometimes how a car feels and how it is actually running are quite different.

It will get a little stronger once you get a couple thousand miles on it but don't expect a big difference. Only way to tell is run it at the track.

Don't bother comparing a 97 gt to a 00. No 97 can run high 13's with only mufflers.

No '97GT will run every bit as strong as a '00GT. Stock for Stock. I've got a '97GT, and my friend the Lizard King has a green '00GT.

How fast a car *feels* makes a huge difference too. Not long ago somone posted about how he ran a '99 WS6 at the track. After a mild launch and a smooth comfortable cruise down the track, he was very surprised that his time slip later read high 12's.

If you're unhappy with a car that runs high 13's stock, well that's bizarre.
Did you test drive it first before you forked over the dough?

It can't be that slow - you've posted your fare share of "kills" :-)

I agree with everyone. "Feeling" means nothing. My 95 Lightning felt faster than my Cobra, but it was all in the launch. It launched hard so it felt like it was faster. If you take a run at the quarter in a 13 second ricer, and then take a run in a stock 2000 GT I bet you'd think the GT was quicker.

Thanks for the responses, guys. It must just be that I got used to the 4.10's in the 97, and forgot what 3.27's were like. Try Me, I think you are confusing my kill stories with those of my other 2 stangs that Ive owned, cause I havent had a real race in the 2000 yet. I'll let you know how it feels once I can put the 4.10 gears which are in my garage in my rear. (that sounded bad...)

Hang on for a bit. My 'Louise' didn't fully wake up 'till about 3k. She even feels a bit stronger after this weekend at the strip and she now has just over 10k. Remember these cars breath better in the upper rpm that the earlier 4.6s

You are comparing the "feel" of a car with 4.10's to the "feel" of a car with 3.27's. 45 hp difference or not, the one with 4.10's is going to "feel" faster...
