Question Gutting The Cats on a 01 GT?

My buddy has an 01 GT. We want to gut the cats, but have been told this will throw a CE Light and could possibly make the car run rich. Any ideas or suggestions or is it even worth doing?
Thanks,
Jeff

When you can buy an offroad H for $125 it doesn't make much sense to gut the factory cats. Either way it will throw a MIL or check engine light when the rear O2 sensors read that the cats are no longer there, it will not effect performance but will be annoying to see the light on. You can get MIL eliminators to get rid of that code from www.mileliminators.com . The car will have more unburnt fuel due to the cats being removed but will not run richer.

P.S. I just pulled my MAC offroad H off the car and is for sale.

Another possibility is high-flow cats for those of us who live in pollution controlled areas.... Dallas cops WILL pull you over and check for cats if they want to be butt-heads.... and a new system coming out will scan car exhausts from across the street.

Be aware...

Heck you could buy a h or x pipe with out cats then just buy some cats and figure out where they fit and weld them in. I did that and saved myself $100 verse buyin x-pipe with cats

I used BBK offroad x-pipe($199@Summit) then bought 2ea. Dynomax Super Converters($52.99 @ JEGS P/N 289-15038)

Thats if you want to go with cats. Personally I dont see a need to run with out them.

I'm actually looking to sell it locally, too much trouble to deal with shipping on something so big.

About 6 hours from the state line. Lake Worth is about 30 miles north of Ft lauderdale.
