Default Brake And Axle Upgrade...

I have an 87 GT that I am setting up for autocrossing. Currrently I have installed an 8 point cage, full length subframe connectors, K brace, Strut Brace, as well as gutting it out and installing a racing seat and harnesses. My next step is to upgrade the brake system. I want to switch from 4 lug to 5 lug wheels too. I have already been told I need to install SN95 axles. What is the best performance setup for a limited budget? Two Piston? Four Piston or more? Disc sizes? Baer is already way to expensive. I have read conflicting opinions in magazines about converting the rear from drum to disc since 80 to 90 percent of braking power comes from the front discs. I plan on racing this car in SCCA Solo I and Solo II events while still keeping it street legal.

I found this web site in MM&FF or 5.0 Mag. Lots of good info on cheep brake upgrades & 5 lug swaps. There may be something that will work for parking lot racing but open track is a little beyond this.

Hope it helps

Brian

I think the site has been updated so look around for info you can use.
