86GT Stock Gearing?

What is the stock gear ratio of an 86GT?

What would be a better highway/occasional strip ratio, 3:23 or 3:55? How much affect would either of these have on my gas mileage?

Stang Runner 11-09-2001 10:15 PM

stock gearing is 2.73 unless the person who ordered the car from the factory with the rear gear option, that would make it 3.08's... most people don't order this so i would say you have the 2.73's

do not get the 3.27's you wont notice much of anything.... but get the 3.55's or the 3.73's

Yep, odds are you have 2.73s. Get 3.55s or 3.73s, most people don't notice much effect on gas mileage, just that you have to shift more. Is your's an auto or manual?

Comatose 11-11-2001 01:24 PM

It's a 5spd.

Thanks for the help, I will probably go with the 3:55s. How hard is the speedometer to recalibrate after the gear change?

Unit 5302 11-11-2001 03:13 PM

All it takes is a speedo gear change. That's about 10min.
