Griggs Torque Arm failure

First post here, guess this is a code forum for it.....

My brothers Grigg's Racing Torque arm failed on him today.
Looks like a replacement arm (by itself) is $379.95.
Does anyone happen to know a shop that sells them cheaper than directly from Griggs. I know when he first bought it, a place up Waltham, MA had a good price on the kit but don't remember the name right now.

Or anyone have a good used one for sale.

Car is a 90 LX 5.0, suspension is stock except for the Griggs rear setup and
pony wheels instead of the telephone dial style. It does have some engine work
done to it though.

If so, please let me know so he can order a new one since the car is
undrivable now! (had it towed home)

Anyone else have these break. The bar has less than 30K miles on it, no drag
runs, no autocrossing. Just daily driving with the occassional fast starts.

Was that the HD or normal version of the torque arm? Having seen the HD version I can't imagine it breaking without outside influence. I used to have the Global West tracklink (now sold by Ford also) and broke it by a misplaced jack under the rearend. A drive-on lift and my Tig welder fixed it. Is it so far gone that it could not be repaired?

It was the regular version that broke.
The little, flat tab at the very front of the bar is what broke, right on the weld.
I'm guessing maybe some embrittlement from welding or something weakened it right along the weld.

It does look repairable, IMO

My brother called Grigg's and they said to send it back to them, and they'd fix it or send him another one since it shouldn't have broken there.

That made my brother very happy that he won't need to buy a new one!

Yeah, its 48" long. 48" long boxes aren't easy to come by. Well they are, but they are either gigantic, or way to narrow. gonna have to make a box from a larger one, or a few smaller ones.

On a side note, called some of the places listed on Grigg's website as being vendors of Grigg's. A few of them said they are not vendors, and none had just the arm itself available for sale, just the entire kit.

Boxes: I just go to an appliance store and get a huge refrigerator box. Then cut/fold it into any size I want. I have shipped exhausts, wheels/tires, radiators, complete front seats... (the lady at the UPS counter just smiles every time I come in)

My brother got a call from Griggs last week. The owners son actually.
The owner is the one who said they'd fix or replace the broken torque arm.
The owner's son is now saying they'll fix the broken part for $90 or knock $100 off a replacement arm.

It sure seemed like they were going to repair or replace the part for free when talking to the owner.
A message on the phone for the owner was returned by the son, still trying to talk directly to the owner again.

The owner had told my brother that a few years back they did have some quality control problems(can't remember if it was material or wokrmanship) and they thought they had caught all the affects arms, not positive this is one of the arms, but it could be.

For $90 they'd fix the part. Basically $90 to cut off the broken tab and weld on a small piece of metal with a hole in it....sounds kinda expensive to me. Had we known they wouldn't fix it for free we'd have taken it to S&W Race Cars or another local shop to get it fixed for a few bucks.

Hoping to talk directly to the owner again.
