Default K&N without rubber intake

Hi,
I'm new here. I have just the K&N filter and was told just by removing the rubber boot on the filter housing I could pick up a few (10)extra horse and mileage. Seems a bit much to ask.

It's a proven free mod on 5.0s, but on the newer modulars folks that have done dyno testing have said that either you don't gain anything or you even lose a few hp. What a lot of people do is just trim the intake silencer down so that it ends at the opening of the wall of the engine compartment (makes the hole somewhat bigger).

Thanks,
I think my mileage might have dropped a bit. Going to put it back on for the winter. iI's thirsty enough when its cold.
Your '00' looks nice. I looked at and sat in a 05. Got so mant compliments on my 00 it makes it hard to justify the price of a new pony.I only have a Mach 1 chin spoiler (picked up 200 rpm) other than stock.
