Post 2000 v6 auto vs. 1987 5.0 auto

My friend just bought a stock 1987 5.0 L auto. He keeps telling me that it will beat my 2000 v6 auto (w/ dual borla exhaust) because he doesn't give the v6 any of the respect that it deserves. We went to a local road that has a long straight away at about 1:00 A.M. to run. I was pretty nervous, cause this 5.0 is pretty loud and mean sounding. We just called out 1,2,3 and went. I had traction control off and had considerable wheel (right...) spin at takeoff, but he had a pretty good start. He took me off the line by about 1/2 and it stayed that distance until I hit second gear when I started to pull past him. By the top of second I was about a car ahead of him and just kept slowly pulling on him until we hit about 100 m.p.h when we stopped (I would guess I was a couple cars ahead at this point). He was pretty impressed by the performance of the new v6s, especially since they can beat the old 5.0s.
