California Speedway to open track!!!

Finally someone had the good sense to build another track in the Inland Empire area to make up for the stupid residents of Pomona's mistake. Fontana's track should be up and running by September..I know that is a while off, but I am sure that the track will be better than Carlsbad.

Whats the elevation and how far is it from O.C.?

LfiveohX 06-27-2001 09:09 PM

Sounds real good for all of us Southern Californians! Do you have any more details? Do you know if it is a 1/8th mile track or a 1/4 mile? I thought I heard that there was also going to be another track opening that was 1/8th mile but I'm not sure if it is the same place. Let us all know!

gp001 06-27-2001 09:23 PM

I heard California Speedway's track is going to be 1/4 mi. temporary track in the parking lot and run the NHRA Street Legals that Pomona did. Supposedly there is info on both their websites

Also heard Irwindale Speedway is opening an 1/8 mi this summer (in fact they tested it this week - looks like it might be a go). They are still awaiting city council approval this month.

Drag City is still saying they are going to have their track in Banning.

I even heard Big Willy is still trying to bring back to life Brotherhood Raceway (not sure if in Terminal Island or somewhere else).

It is a full 1/4 mile, less than 45 minutes(less than 30 how i drive http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/wink.gif) from OC, not sure on elevation though...shouldn't be too different from pomona though....

FUXK! Oh well its not THAT high. Its definitely going to be my new track of choice (as long as they prep it) I seriously hope Carlsbad loses ALL its business so they are forced to CLEAN the damn track. If Carlsbad cleaned up they could easily have the fastest track around.

Carlsbad doesn't care. They were suppose to be shut down years ago. There is some big corridor highway to be built through their property. That's why their motor cross track, circle track, and road course are all closed down (or highly shortend). Apparently there is some big feud between the two cities (Carlsbad & Vista) involved over the federal money proposed for the corridor project. There are also citizen groups trying to get the development project stopped. The track is just biding the time making a little extra money till they are closed. When I first went there in the late 80's they were telling us that the track would be closed in a year. When I went the moto crossers used to have the morning, and they wouldn't let the drag racers in until they were all out (about noon or 1). Then in the evening the little cirlce track carts would come in as most of the drag racers were leaving. None of the surrounding buildings were there. The strip mall/gas station on the corner was a weed field and the Carlsbad Raceway property exteded much more from the dragstrip than it does today.
Just some info

Pomona was 800 feet.

How close is this new track, when is it supposed to open?
