Cheap Subframes=Bad?
 

Has anyone used products from Slot Car Racing or R & D Performance, mainly subframes??? I see their SFCs on Ebay for $20-$40, and although I don't want to skimp on such a critical part of chassis stiffening, how BAD can you screw up when designing a steel tube???

The subframe connectors are "ok". They are similar to all the other ones out there. You are basically paying for the "pre-bent" metal. Otherwise, go make your own.
IMOHO, sure, I'd get them.

Thanks Daris, I figured they were pretty much all the same.

The only factors I could really imagine would be an issue is the thickness of the sfc wall...but on a daily driver that isn't seeing extra risk for chassis flex, I don't think it should be a big deal. Also, I'm more worried about getting a good weld job done than the subframe itself *groan* Maybe a welder should be on my list to Santa! :D

If the bend in them isn't exactly right so that they butt up flush against your unibody rails, you may have to heat and bend them a little to get them to fit right. I had to do this with the subframes I put on my '79 and it really wasn't a big deal. The only other issue I would see is if they have the cross pieces that support the floor where the seats bolt in. The floor on some of my Foxes tore there before, so I think they are a good feature.
