Question 17" Rims?

Hey guys I was wondering if anyone with a fox body car was running 17 x 9 rims? I have an 83 and am thinking about doing a 5 lug conversion so I can toss some big disks at it. I don't really like the fact that 16" rims have such a limited choice of tire sizes, so I was thinking about jumping up to a 17" rim.

I was thinking about the F150 Lightening rims, they are 17 x 9 right???

I have some cobra r 17in rims on my 90 GT. Tires 245/45/17.
They rub alot when I turn and also I bottom hard out alot on the highway. My fender wells rub and eat at the tires sometimes. This is very bad considering the tires cost almost 200 buck each. I think part of the problem is my springs but the wheels are definitly part of the problem. They will rub for sure at simi sharp turns and parking spaces.
Even with all the problems the still look VERY COOL!!! Have a look and decide. http://members.mustangworks.com/jpumpkinn/

I used to own some 17x8 ROH ZR6's with 245/45/17 out front and 255/45/17 out back. My car is lowered also and they never rubbed.

You can run an 8 inch and smaller rim on a fox body car. You can go larger with the risk of coming into a situation in which contact is possible. You can pick up a tool that will allow for some outward folding of the fenderwells. I remember a post last week in this forum on such tools.

My friend had an 86 GT and we tried putting my 17x9 Cobra R's and the fronts wouldn't even turn! It was hitting the shock's hardcore, they rubbed on my 89 Gt and knocked the weights off and scraped the rims. I'm going to order some 17x8's for the front and 17x9's on the back(chrome).

The older Lightnings had 17 inch wheels. The new ones are 18.
