Shocks and Struts
I have a 1994 mustang and just got some lowering springs. Are KYB shocks and struts any good. The guy told me that I will need to buy new shocks and struts for when I lower my car. I do not have much money so I was wondering if the gas shcoks by KYB where any good.

I had the Monroe Formulas GP's on there, and really liked them, too bad they dont make them any more.
Wanted new struts, so I tried the struts on my 1989 Mustang. They were stiff, had a LOT of preload (raised the car), and didnt absorb the road noise. Sorry, IMOHO, they suck. Got a set of used Koni reds, and they were shot, so it wasnt a fair test. Finally went with the Koni Yellos SA's. Thats what I needed for the ultra-stiff roadrace suspension on my car. |
Unfortunately with shocks and struts you get what you pay for these days. For the price if you just want something high quality and sportier than stock I would suggest a set of non-adjustable Tokico's. My friend had them on his '89 GT with some H&R springs and they were pretty good IMO. If you want the best performance go with Bilsteins or with Koni or Tokico adjustables.

I just got the H&R springs. I figured the KYB springs would be crappy. Thanks for yalls help.

I met a guy at one of our Mustang meets that was a technician at Kenny Brown. He installed a set of Ford C springs on his Stang and was using KYB struts and shocks. These were brand new when the springs went on. He said the struts lasted about 6 months before they were toast, and the shocks lasted a bit longer but eventually gave out as well. That convinced me to buy Koni Yellows and I was very happy with them. They are very stiff, but man did they handle the twisties! I have a friend who uses Koni Reds and his car has a bit smoother ride, but you give up some in handling. Either one will be a vast improvement over stock though, and they are guaranteed forever.

I apprecaite all your help one last question. Are Tokico or are Bilestiens any good?
|
Both Tokicos and Bilsteins are very good. Konis are also excellent.
