Just thought I would drop in and mention that I swapped an IRS into my '94 GT this past weekend. The swap was MUCH easier than I anticipated. The only real issue thus far has been running down a soft line to complete my rear brake lines. Other than that, it was relatively simple. I have yet to drive the car due to some wonderful clutch engagement/disengagement issues, but hopefully tonight all of that will be fixed. What I am the most excited about is the ability to play with my rear toe-in and negative camber!

I purchased koni SA's with 10" 600'lb coilover springs for the rear, urethane control arm and subframe arm bushings, aluminum diff bushings, and a rear bump steer kit is in the immediate future. Can anybody think of anything else I am missing on the rear? Matt |

I'm a big fan of Maximum Motorsports. Looks like they make some new parts for the IRS:

My car is equipped with all sorts of maximum parts. That is actually where I ordered the bushings from. Matt |

Yes MM does make suspension parts for the IRS. The IRS is good for cornering. I am also a big fan of MM parts.

It came out of an '03 Cobra. The guy was looking for a solid axle for the drag strip and I just happened to have one containing what he was looking for.

As for why I chose 600 lb springs for the rear? Mainly because it was available at a great price and I've heard of people running higher spring rates on the IRS. I matched this with 450 lb front coilover springs. I ran this setup at Sebring at about 50% effort (head gasket failure) and was surprised at how well the combination matched. P.S. - Sorry for the incredibly delayed response. I had a slight leave of absence. |
