18" Tire selection for autocross 9-10" rim
I recently purchased some Saleen replica Rims
18X9 for the front 18X10 for the rear I autocross the car regularly and intend to purchase the stickiest street tires I can get for the best price. With the wider rear rims I could run wider tires on the back, but I have heard this could increase understeer. Any feedback on that would be appreciated. I am considering Kumho mx's as they seem to be excellent performance for the money. I dont drive the car much except too and from the races locally, So wear is not as important as performance. Ill Be racing in Street Modified where my competition can run race tires, So Im already at a disadvantage. I orignally purchased the wider rear tire because Im running a supercharged v6 with 4.10 gears , I thought bigger tires on the back would help prevent wheelspin, and the more rubber on the road the better. However in my last autocross race I learned that due to understeer that mustangs can be "steered with the rear tires" effectively, using a little drift to bring the car around corners. That make sme want to reconsider putting bigger tires on the rear. The Car has the following Mods Steeda sport springs x2 ball joints bumpsteer kit tokiko illuminas all around Vortech V1 Magnaflow dual exhaust SCT chip(dyno tuned) any other autocross advice for the 95 v6 convertible would be appreciated. Re: 18" Tire selection for autocross 9-10" rim
Go to tirerack.com and look up the KD's. These are VERY expensive street tires.
If you dont drive much, consider just running race tires, I do. Get something like the Kumho Victoracers or V710s R-compound tires. Sure, they dont last long, but you dont seem to really care anyways.

Re: 18" Tire selection for autocross 9-10" rim
I have heard bad things about driving race tires on the street. The course I race at is still a good 45 min away.
I have read that the Kumho mx's are just a little shy of the performance of the kd's but much less expensive. Any opinions on the mx's? or on Tire size? I was thinking 265/35 on the front and 295 35 on the back. Stan |
