No more tires
Well, the event would have been great had I been able to finish the race. I officially have no more tread on the back tires. One of the officials even asked if I had DR's. We only ran the car 4 times. He had to have enough tire to get home on. I guess I am looking for a set of used racing tires. :P
On a good note. I didn't spin out or hit any cones. I find that the more and more I race the better I understand my car and how it performs. My 1st big lesson learned: Tires make or break you. I didn't really pay attention to them until now. 2nd Lesson learned: I need better brakes. When my bf drifted around the corner cuz he couldn't stop the car very well was pretty exciting. However, the goal is to get around the fastest, not who can drift the farthest around the corner. All in all, I had a great day! Anyone selling used tires in the Houston area? Jules

After I got my stang handling well I really noticed the brake fade, too. After about only 3 or 4 hard brakes in succession going into corners they would fade. I bought the Baer 13" front brake kit for mine and I cannot get them to fade no matter how hard I try now. For the money it was a great mod.
It's definitely true about the tires - you don't realize how much grip you've lost until you throw some brand new ones on.

Yeah, we are looking for the 13" brake upgrade on Ebay right now. Also, we are searching for some used race tires to slap on for the interm. I think I'm going to get some different wheels but that's a little more than I can afford at the moment.

how good is the 94-98 Cobra 13" brake kit? I know it is no Brembo but is it decent?

Yeah they are good, better than the stock ones. I'm pretty sure that they are the same as the C4 brakes. My bf has those on his 94' Z28. He bought the old Vette brakes. The only thing that differentiates them is there is a Cobra painted on them.

Remember, your brakes are only as good as your pads. But this was about tires. I've heard good things about the Kumho 712's. I'm going to be needing tires here soon myself. ugh.

IMOHO the Baer and the M2300K kits are basically identical. The Brembos are fractionally better, but much more expensive.
I run the M2300K kit with Performance Friction PF90 coumpound pads. Using the Saleen airdam and 3" ducting to the rotors does pretty well. I still have to be careful as I can overheat the brakes at the track, but thats when I am pushing 10/10's effort. This is my settup:
